What happens when you cheat?!

I am just short of 4 weeks on keto. I’m sure I’ve gone into ketosis, don’t think I’m fat adapted yet. I’ve been fairly good with my eating, some extra fruit here and there but nothing crazy.

But today I went for dinner, had a sausage with a naan bread bun and mango chutney… and a beer (soooo good). Then watched my friend order ice cream and of course she couldn’t finish it… so I did.

Anyways, what happens when you cheat? Do you get kicked out of ketosis? What does his actually mean? Am I going to have the Keto Flu again?

I don’t regret it one bit!! But will not be falling off the train because of it.

Yes, it may kick you out of ketosis. You shouldn’t get Keto flu again if you get right back to it.

The biggest problem at this point is it may slow you down becoming fat adapted. I wouldn’t worry too much about the one time, but ignore you do it regularly you can really hinder your ability to become fat adapted.

Once fat adapted, the body is a bit more resilient and can get back to ketosis faster.

To paraphrase the nuns: “If you cheat you will go to carbohydrate hell.”

I am at five months, and if I “cheat” occasionally my levels drop, but then go back up the next day. I use a blood ketone monitor to track.
