What happens if u eat too much fat on a keto diet in one day?

(Christina Rose) #1

I am new to keto n ate a lot of fat bombs I made which I will never do again. I went like 40:50g of fat over that day. I have been eating less fat since yesterday to make up for it…is that ok? How do I recover from this to balance it out?

I don’t think you can eat too much fat where Keto is concerned. It might be extra calories you don’t need but I should not do anything detrimental to your Ketosis state.

If you felt totally miserable, you probably ate to much fat. It’s a learning experience.

But, this too shall pass. Like everything else, just learn from it.

And enjoy the journey.

I am relatively educated with the glucose-to-fat storage process via insulin, but I haven’t heard much science about the fat-to-fat storage mechanism.

I’m not sure that this is a complete or total summary of the pathway, because I’m not up to date on the topic either.

But, here is a link that may help:

@erdoke is much more up to date on this stuff, as he reads up on this nonstop, so maybe he can help out.

You carry on as normal and don’t stress it at all.

Keep in mind that most of us start eating this way because our “goal” is to lose weight. What we usually mean is that we want to lose body fat in all the right places. But, this really isn’t what we really want, and we just don’t know it yet.

The body gets fat as a mechanism to protect us from damage that is happening to our body from things like diet, genetics, environment, etc. The body develops fat stores to protect us, and help us survive the stress and the trauma.

Our goal should be to get healthy, reduce inflammation (from the stressors in the body), etc, and this will lead to the loss of fat being stored in all the right places.

So, eating dietary fat is a good way of lowering inflammation; especially if the source of some of that inflammation was the food you were previously eating.

So, keep up the good work.

In this case i would suggest eating real foods and foods that are more satiating. Even though i don’t agree with eating to satiation. Binging on fat bombs will not lead to healthy eating habits or a positive mental mind set and they are not satiating. Will you gain weight from over eating fat? It depends on how efficient your body is at digesting and using fat and what kind of fat you are using. Most people who start keto are not metabolically healthy and they burn a lot of energy and do not have the capacity to digest large amounts of fat. When times goes on there body will be able to use and even store the fat. Now as far as fats MCT’s and LCF are basically short and long chain fatty acids. Mct’s will in general not be able to be stored by the body as long chains will.

I will personally testify to that.

In my experience, not very much.

There are a few of us on here who lost weight while eating 5000+ cal / day.

(Christina Rose) #18

It was 1 cup of whipping cream n a block of cream cheese with swerve n vanilla extract

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #19

The point of keto eating is to minimize carbohydrate intake and replace those calories with fat. Fat is very satisfying, so it is very hard to overeat fat (though some people can manage it). If you listen to your body, it will tell you when you have given it enough energy to do all the things it wants to do. I remember the first time I ate fat to satiety, and it was a weird experience, because in the middle of the meal, I realized I was done—I just didn’t want any more food. When I was a sugar-burner, I was used to eating everything on my plate and wanting more. Anyway, the upshot is that I don’t count calories—I just eat healthy food that includes a lot of fat. I don’t have to count calories, because my body tells me when I’ve eaten enough, whether that’s a lot or a little.

Why do we even make fat bombs??! Every time I do I over eat them, because the Swerve triggers a sugar reaction to me. I ate TEN CHOCOLATE WALNUT COFFEE FAT BOMBS THIS MORNING. I do feel sick. I’m not making any fat bombs ever again. Such a dumb idea and sooooo unneccessary on Keto diet, right?? I was doing so great!! I had just returned from a body pump class and a hot yoga class hollowing that and I felt so amazing. So I came home and made a bunch of fat bombs and now I feel sick. It’s just unnecessary. I could’ve stopped with two eggs and some coffee. I am just not going to make that bombs again. Ever. So my advice is don’t make fat bombs unless you just want to add a ton of calories to your keto diet and you’re trying to gain weight. Calories DO matter.
