What do you think? Am I doing something wrong

(Kyle ) #1

So I started keto 7 days ago I follow the 75 20 5 macros. I follow every guideline for keto and I measured my blood today and I’m only. 02 mlm. Does that seam right to anyone. I understand it can take up to ten days but I thought the numbers would be better than that. I’ve lost 9 pounds this week which is great have had awesome energy but at. 02 mlm am I even in ketosis

Here is an article on the initial large amount of weight loss (long story short, it’s water).

https://www.perfectketo.com/fast-will-lose-weight-keto-expect-dieting-keto/

The thing to keep in mind is that you are making progress!

You really care about your 6 week keto number (if you’ve been sticking to keto, it will validate your work).
The 1 week number does not mean much and might be very different for someone that has been living on processed foods for their whole life versus someone that has been paleo for 5 years and wants to try keto.

Even the water loss would not be happening if you were not going down the correct keto path - it is a good sign.
It is the first step before real fat burning and you are setting yourself up for success - “Keep calm and keto on!”.

Great article. Can you expand on the importance of levels at six weeks?

Seems right, and can take a hell of a lot longer than 10 days for a descent blood measurement. Most of your ketones at this point (which will still be minimal in your first week) will be spilling out in urine. The more your fat adapt you will start showing more bhb in your blood. Don’t go number crazy the 70/20/5 works great for almost everybody and as long as your sticking to it you’ll be fine. Your down 9lbs which shows your dumping stored water and glycogen, AND you have good energy in only 7 days, that’s much more telling than a ketone measurement.

I’m having a similar result… re-started keto about 10 days ago and am surprisingly not showing much in urine, nothing on the breath meter, and very low on the blood monitor. But I’m sure I’m in ketosis because I’m dumping water like crazy, so much that my blood pressure really bottomed out last night.

What’s puzzling me is that when I received my Keto Mojo blood monitor 3 days ago my initial test showed .9, and every reading since then has been lower and lower. .5, .4, .4, etc.

Not worrying about it, though… my body knows this WOE is working. Soon the confirmation will come in the testing devices. And try to remember, those numbers DO NOT MATTER. They are only for those of us who need some validation and confirmation to stay motivated or us tekky geeks who love playing with test results.

Let’s see.

Dumped glycogen: check (9lbs in a week)
Feeling good: check.

Nope. No mistakes except worrying about your ketone level. KCKO.

6 is not a magic number. It is on the high end I think.

After keto flu, maybe not perfect on keto while learning, getting fat adapted etc. these should all be done/fixed by 6 weeks.

I’m not saying not to measure ketone levels before 6 weeks (you should to check progress). I was just addressing the title of this post “Am I doing something wrong”.

If, after 6 weeks, your numbers are still low then, it is likely something is wrong. Either the diet is not for you or you need to double down on your focus (looking for hidden carbs, is there snacking going on, etc.).
