What did you take a photo of on your walk today? (feat. CHUNK)

(Jane) #845

I looked it up and it is cheese balls marinated in soybean oil.

Cheese balls come in many styles and flavors; likely every cheesemaking part of the world has some version of a cheesy orb, be it rolled in nuts, herbs, spices, peppers, and dried fruits, or marinated in oil. The Middle East’s traditional cheese ball is Shankleesh, or “pickled Labneh,” a dairy delicacy native to Lebanon.

Cha wants to know how he got the name Chunk. I suggested she take a not-very-close look at him and rethink, but then she mentioned some pop-culture reference (Goonies, maybe?) and I was completely lost, so I’m asking, because I’m a good husband.

(Allie) #847

Simple really, I had two names in mind just because I liked them - Chunky and Shadow - but his breeder had a cat called Shadow so Chunky it became. He was only three weeks old at the time but as he grew over the next few weeks, it became clear that the correct name had been chosen as he ended up the biggest chunkiest puppy in the whole litter.

She asked last night, after I had collapsed into bed after my epic housework day, and I got told: “Put the phone away, get off the forum!” (It’s all about blue light at night and so on, ya know?)

“But my lock screen says Allie has posted, so it might be swan pics!” kinda got me out of trouble

Just for you then @juice

WOOHOO!

Didn’t walk very far today just to the curb. We had an ice storm and the wind has picked. Here’s hoping we keep electricity.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #852

Sure, cat. You know they’re faster than you are - you’re just going to go flying off the steps and embarrass yourself!

(Running from stupidity) #853

What are the odds she’ll hit the tub and do a couple of ribs?

(Empress of the Unexpected) #854

First item of business. I forgot about the ribs today so it sounds like I will make a full recovery. All that eating yesterday, you know.

Second, it’s really funny to watch the hummers heckling the cat. They will hover a foot away from her, knowing they are perfectly safe, and can teleport to the neighbor’s yard at a moment’s notice.

(Running from stupidity) #855

My name is DR JUICE and I approve of these birds.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #856

And don’t worry - after this picture was taken I immediately refilled the feeders. Though I now have an entire backyard of native California bladderpod, which they love. They say it’s better to have them nectar on native plants than nectar, but I am too soft-hearted. I year ago I had five feeders set up, and, apparently, at the start of some migration, about 30 birds. It’s the Anna’s Hummingbird. We have four resident now.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #857

Are you a heckler from way back?

(Running from stupidity) #858

It’s like professional football - it’s not something I’ve ever done, but I like seeing it done well.

At the end of yesterday’s walk

(The amazing autoimmune 🦄) #860

No walking past the front porch today. About 1/2 to an 1 inch of ice on everything, including the stairs of the porch, with subzero temperatures nothing is going to thaw. A good day to watch some tv.

(Diane) #861

What a lovely photograph!

(less is more, more or less) #862

I was able to behold the glory of a total lunar eclipse last night, toasty warm in our hot tub. It was gorgeous.

You’re welcome for no pictures.

(Karen) #863

Gorgeous wolf moon eclipse from the castle. No photo of the moon as it was for the experience.

Our room was next to the turret and moon could be seen in full eclipse out of the suite window.

My dad’s place.
