What did you learn today?

(Karen) #585

I had four children. I always wanted two. DH wanted a boy after the first two girls, and a fourth child was a surprise. It was hard work, I think it was worth it, but I would like to try have tried a life sans children and about me and my career and my friends and my relationships and my hobbies and my travels. I think it would be pleasant.
I hope I have a healthy 20 more years to have this second life, now they’re grown. Hence KCKO.

I’d like to think this is true for Lisa, but I have my suspicions. At 4’ 11", she needed somebody to reach the middle and top shelves.

 My wife is 5’ 0" - and yeah…

My wife basically comes from a family of Hobbits.

Try this: Cl < sub > 2 < / sub > but remove the spaces. (Cl2).

If someone does something neat in a post, I highlight it and click on “Quote” to see how they did it.

If you take an ambulance, they charge around $1,000. Payable out-of-pocket, though sometime insurance will reimburse you.

#590

Wow. We are supposed to pay out of pocket for an ambulance here (not sure how much but probably not $1,000!) but my husband took a ride in one a few years ago & we never got a bill

(Running from stupidity) #591

Cheap. Last time I took one, they charged me with theft.

(Ellen) #592

Look at you all thinking I’m that tech literate! Will try & remember yours, @OldDoug & @juice prompts but unlikely, I’ve gone almost 40 years tech phobic!

(Ellen) #593

That is seriously
fucked
up, I honestly didn’t believe much of what had heard about US healthcare (assumed it couldn’t be that bad), struggling to get my head around that, are you actually just left to die if can’t afford care???

(Ellen) #594

WTF? So minimum wage person gets stabbed but has to get a taxi or what???

#595

Yes. Check out the news surrounding the price gouging of insulin in the past couple years. People died trying to ration out their insulin. America hates poor people.

(Ellen) #596

That’s barbaric.

(Laurie) #597

When I taught English in another country, some of the teachers were local and the remainder from various other countries. We were discussing end-of-life decisions like whether to pull the plug if a loved one is really ill. An American lady said in the USA it’s determined by finances: If you don’t have money, you let the person die. End of discussion.

#598

Most Americans tend to agree. But getting it changed has been impossible because something something communism something something Obamacare death panels something something.

In reality of course it’s just the Big Pharma lobbying to keep their pockets lined.

(Running from stupidity) #599

And HER EMAILZ!

While what you say is true, it’s going to be a VERY difficult thing to to change, simply because the entire “healthcare” industry has been entirely for-profit just as if it was making bolts or banking or whatever. With zero consideration given to to any possible moral aspects, the costs are so insanely high that changing to a system used by many other countries is a VERY difficult thing.

I’m not saying it shouldn’t be done, of course, but it appears that the Bernie Sanders of the world have a slogan and not much else, which isn’t much use.

#600

Don’t worry my generation will kill it because none of us can afford going to the doctor so we just don’t lol.

(Ellen) #601

Ah yes, healthcare is for Commies. I had to pay when in NZ but it wasn’t expensive (and didn’t have to pay when in hospital) but was still a shock. Maybe when you get rid of PEETUS (preferably to prison/secure mental hospital) you might get someone who actually cares about people (or am I being ridiculously naive?).

(Running from stupidity) #602

That’ll sort it out

(Scott) #603

Nobody is refused care but if you have any assets they will find them. Of course I have heard that in some countries you may need to wait months to see a specialist. I don’t know what path is best.

#604

Yes
