What cereal can I eat!?

(Stephanie De Simone) #1

Newbie here. Craving cereal. Anyone have recommendations?

Bacon and eggs.

Have a look at the nutrition panel, and decided how much real food you are willing - or think is sensible - to give up in order to eat the cereal.

The only cereals I have found that are low carb are pretty pricey, ordered online. I choose to just find other options. Not worth the expense to me! Hope you find something that works for you!!

There are some keto granolas at Whole Foods. Pretty pricey though and still a fair amount of carbs. I would just eat some nuts, pumpkin seeds, coconut flakes, pork rinds, cheese whisps, etc. The craving for carbs goes away quickly.

You can eat any cereal you want. However, the insulin spike will temporarily suspend Lipolysis. One bowl to satisfy a craving is one thing, deciding to add cereal back into your nutritional pattern is another.

If you’ve been Lipolytic for more than a couple of weeks a bowl won’t hurt you, as long as it doesn’t set off a carb eating episode.

I had a bowl the other week, but it’s a rare event for me.

And me!

I’m guessing it’s safe to say a neophyte will have no idea what “lipolytic” means. Hell, I don’t know what that means. <scrambles to google>

@Stephanie_DeSimone there is a ton of science behind Keto/LCHF, but you don’t need to understand it. Check out Dr. Westman’s Page Four. He has greatly simplified getting started on LCHF.

Best wishes!

Yes. Learn to quell those cravings. Don’t eat cereal. This is pretty much a “no grains” diet

Do you like granola?

I never liked cereal, ever. I’ll eat a little of this granola from time to time as my wife loves it. I think it’s pretty good. (You can do quite a bit of substitution to the recipe if there is something you like or don’t like. It’s quite flexible.)

I second @juice with best breakfast cereal being bacon and eggs :joy::joy::joy:.

On a serious note what about almond milk with cinnamon, almond flakes and other chopped nuts? Maybe chia pudding? Just trying to be creative here…

If u miss something crunch have a go at bacon rinds or (my latest fav and discovery) baked chicken skins, they turn out super crispy and all that glorious chicken flavour!

I would avoid at all costs… will start cravings for other things that you probably don’t want to start off…

Fight through it?

How long have you been keto? Cravings subside and are replaced by healthy foods over time. Cereals aren’t great and once you pour milk over the top it’s not good at all.

Wnat’s cereal?

(Mike Glasbrener) #17

Exactly!

A pretend food with a very high profit margin.

I’ve looked at some charts that include glycemic index and insulin index sensitivity measures. Hi bran cereal’s are low glycemic, low insulin index and very satiating for most people. You might be able to eat it and Stay in ketosis

I watched someone on Youtube make pork rinds into cereal by sprinkling cinnamon on them with a little bit of sweetener and then some almond milk. Listening to her crunch while taking a bite sounded like it would settle that craving for cereal! I never tried it bc I kept forgetting to buy the almond milk!
