Weight loss stalled & gained

(Frank) #1

Hi Guys,

This is probably a common topic and I am not too worried about it as I am sure it is part of the process, but curious of peoples experience on Keto.

First week I lost 7lbs in weight first 2 days I lost 3lbs in total and then slowly lost for the rest of the week, so I expect it is glycogen and water weight for the 3lbs.

This week day 1 no loss and day 2 I have gained 0.9lb.

Food wise yesterday I had

Breakfast: 4 slices of bacon and 2 fried eggs.
Lunch: Raspberries small punnet.
Dinner 2 burgers in lettuce with cheese

snack small amount of cheese with no sugar peanut, walnut, pecan butter about a teaspoon.

Any ideas guys?

I was thinking of ramping up the volume I eat, but then I am just not hungry.

Thanks

Frank

It really could be anything. My weight fluctuates up and down almost daily. Could be from the nut butters, some people reactive negatively to those.

I would also cut out the snack and eat it with your meal or eat more at meals. Eating more often provokes higher insulin responses and makes it more difficult to lose.

Thanks I don’t often snack it is only if I did not eat enough at lunch.

The reason I say that is not just what we eat but WHEN we eat has huge importance in our insulin levels and ability to lose. The longer you can go with stimulating insulin (aka not eating) the more your body is in a state to access your fat stores.

There are SO many factors that go into weight loss that every little thing you can do helps. How is your sleep? Your stress? Both of those things can greatly impact weight loss.

Additionally, I will say that your food looks a little low, like you should be eating more, but I also totally understand not being hungry! Try and eat some calorie dense food and sneak extra fat when you can. Upping your calories may help rev metabolism and help you lose.

Thanks Jillian.

Sleep is not too bad and stress has been okay.

I will up the calories with the some fat, I am only eating when hungry and to be honest that is not too often.

My scale will show different weights within a few minutes of weighings.
I know I can’t be losing or gaining that much weight that quickly. :stuck_out_tongue:

The main thing is to watch the overall trend line and prepare to experiment periodically when things stall.
For example, as I stalled, I went from two meals a day to one meal a day to removing heavy cream from coffee to the occasional multi-day fasts.

That is why I have been weighing myself each day to see trends and see if anything causes me to stall. I am also measuring Ketones using the Ketonix (well what ever it is that it actually measures)

The good news for me is todays weigh in I have lost 2.4 pounds, so happy days!

I feel you on the daily weigh ins, but the comment regarding watching the general trend is on point.

Be consistent in your weigh in routine (time, clothing, empty bladder etc) but don’t do anything drastic if you see a day or two or three of confusing numbers.

Just take it in stride and know that if you keep carbs in check each day, you are repairing years of damage. Get in to healthy habits and remember take occasional progress photos to look back on… measurements (how do clothes feel??) track other non scale victories like how your energy levels are all day… Mood. Etc. Great threads on NSV to read on this forum.

It’s tough doing everything right but not seeing the scale budge… But it’s normal and should be expected. Take pride in what you control, ie: hitting your Macros for the day or just being low carb 20g or less. That you have 100% control over. And even then if you go over, tomorrow is always a fresh start…

This is a lifestyle now, so try to relax and enjoy the process

Frank,

What is your baseline - age, weight, height, calorie intake activity level, objectives,…

Are you monitoring ketones and glucose?

Because for some, your consumption could be adding weight very fast.

Watch for carbs in raspberries and the cheese on the burgers, some nuts have small amounts of carbs.

Thanks for asking this question. I started keto 13 days ago. I lost a quick 9lbs but when I weighed in yesterday I had gained 3lbs and then today gained another 1lb. Nothing changed in my diet. Is this normal cos I was starting to her depressed. I measured with ketostix yesterday and It showed I’m in Ketosis. Confused!!!

Age 47
Weight 13st 8.5lbs
Height 5ft 6inch
Activity Level Desk Jockey
Calories not sure as I have not been tracking them

I hear you on the constipation but luckily it is not too bad, the Ketonix is measuring breath acetone PPM (not sure what that means).

Love that, you are so right I never thought of it like that thanks!

Agree with the above - I stopped weighing myself daily, and also take the weekly results with a grain of salt. Literally, if I get a bad result, I put some salt on my tongue, Megan Ramos-style and just stay calm and keto on.
