Week 3 update, state of the keto

(Andrew) #1

I am 25 days in, macros working pretty well for me.
I use Loseit for tracking and haven’t missed a meal.

Food: 1700-2000cal range
I eat eggs, avocados, brie cheese, 80/20 beef, pork sausages, salmon. Brussel sprouts, broccoli, and spinach with limited quantity. I snack on almonds, pickles, and pepperchinnis.

Water:
I drink 3-5L of water a day, really, and yes I pee a lot.
I dropped all alcohol, sweeteners, and fruit drinks.
Occasionally I’ll have an almond milk.
Black coffee daily

Exercise:
3-4 days @ 30-60min. I do 15min cardio and 30-45 of weights. Occasionally I’ll do a big hike or run.

Cheats:
I once had panna cotta, but couldn’t confirm if it had sugar.
I ate a full bowl of hot Sauerkraut with my brat. Oh so good. Unsure if sauerkraut in that quantity is keto.

Issue1:
Today - I couldn’t complete a strenuous hike I normally complete under carb power. 2600’ elevation, 3mi I got 85% complete and was on the edge of total exhaustion, had I pushed, maybe I’d have made it, but I erred on side of caution. I drank 3L of water, so it was not hydration.

Issue2:
I feel like I am losing abnormally fast.
Day 01: 185lbs
Day 25: 171lbs
Target is: 155lbs

Benefits realized:
I never feel famished, pants/shirts are fitting, face gains, co-workers noticing, no 2pm crashes. Possibly saving money, worst case a wash from $20 a day in lunches.

With all the keto friendly options these days, lettuce wraps burgers, sausages, salad bowls, I don’t see myself eating rice, bread, fries or sugar in any quantity again.

I do miss the following; pasta, some fruits, onions and tomatoes.

Thanks for reading about my progress.

State of the Keto; Week 10 (3rd Update)
(Khara) #2

Great job so far. I too am 25 days in and 13 lbs down. So for issue 2, your weight loss actually sounds reasonable to me. This is my second go at Keto and there is an initial whoosh of a loss at first and then it’s usually more gradual. My 13 lbs was 7 lbs the 1st week and then 6 lbs spread over weeks 2 and 3. As for issue 1, I personally am just now starting to feel the beginnings of fat adaptation. I have recently still had some fatigued days and can tell I’m teetering on the edge and almost there. I’m thinking it’s still a bit early on for you to be able to do your normal hike and feel good and strong consistently. Based on past experience though, I do think it will come with further adaptation to this and it probably won’t be long now. Best wishes and KCKO.

Great write up @AMRivlin . I also think it’s early days re fat adaptation. If you still crave pasta give it a few weeks and those hikes will be a breeze.
I’m not that athletic, but I love how I can powerwalk across town now without getting back issues and starting to look for a seat or a cafe
