I lost 4 lbs my first week, but the scale hasn’t budged since Sunday. Nothing had changed with my eating and I am in moderate ketones every day.
Ideas? Is this normal?
Week 2-plateau already?
Yes it is normal. Happened to me, and my dad, and my mom.
It is called PISS - Post Introductory Stall Syndrome
Basically you lose water weight, and your body starts focusing on other stuff such as hormone regulation, lowering inflammation, and getting fat adapted.
You will probably continue to get visibly thinner, and inches may change, but weight won’t for a while (one or more months).
My dad lost 10 lbs of water weight in the first week or two and then stalled until he was 3 months in and started losing again.
Keep track of NSVs (non-scale victories) for the first few months, make sure you are getting <20g of carbs, moderate protein, and fat to satiety, and most importantly Keep Calm and Keto On and before you know it you’ll be fat adapted and losing again
P.S. The scale is a liar so you shouldn’t believe it anyway. Take your measurements and progress pics!
Yup! It is completely normal! I believe it took either @richard or @carl 2 months after starting to start losing weight.

The biggest thing is KCKO!
Also side note… Many people (myself included) who are overweight or obese have some amount of insulin resistance. It takes a little while for your insulin to go down enough to be able to access body fat enough to start losing weight, if you are. So your body is patching up some roads, fixing potholes… but the scale doesn’t reflect that at all so it can feel quite frustrating. Trust in the process and keep track of NSVs
Clothes fitting better? Face looking less puffy? Chin peeking through or looking more defined? Less frizzy hair? Shoes a little bit less tight?
For my dad it was a disappearance in his heart pain that he has had for years (he has heart disease), people commented he looked thinner, etc
Thank you so much! I am so excited I found this group! I will check out the podcasts today.
