I’ve been water fasting for 6 days but have been having coffee with one sugar since day 4 and weight loss has stopped anyone know why
Water fasting 30 days -- 6 days in so far
Hi Natasha. Weight loss depends on many variables such as gender, starting weight, metabolic health, etc. I would imagine that anyone fasting but only adding ONE serving of sugar would still manage to lose weight but you’re doing yourself a disservice with the sugar.
Check out the fasting category on the forum. There is wealth of knowledge there.
Thank you for your reply, I should have made my self clearer, I have done a water fast before and was losing 2-3 pounds a day yet this time I’m only losing 1 pound a day, I plan to give up sugar completely on Monday but I think it’s fair to say I’m a sugar addict and found two cups of coffee with a sugar has helped me to day 6 I want to do 30days any tips for helping me ditch all the sugar ?
Can I ask why you’re doing a 30 day fast? What do you hope to get out of it? How long have you been on a Keto diet?
30 days seems extreme plus you’re adding actual sugar? Not sure anyone would advise that.
I did a 11 day fast about 6months ago and I found it really helped me during a very stressful time, it gave me lots of clarity and allowed me to slow down and think! I also lost some weight although that was not the main objective
Now I’m doing a 30 day fast as I feel like my body is very sluggish and I have bad sleep, I have also gained some weight I want to shift so to answer your question I’m trying to rid toxins and give my body a bit of a overhaul
Then don’t worry about weight loss. You’re not going to lose every day, or even every week.
I myself know it’s not a sensible add but like I said I’m a bit of a sugar addict so feel I needed to ween myself off over the first 7 days
I guess I use that as a gage it’s working, how long have you fasted before and did you find you didn’t always lose everyday
Just can’t find anywhere that it’s mentioned
Most I’ve ever fasted is two days, because I don’t need that kind of stress in my life right now. And I did it to get my insulin levels low. If you’re trying to use fasting as a quick way to lose weight, I’d strongly advise against it.
I will say if you’re consuming sugar then you’re breaking your fast, because anything that causes an insulin release breaks a fast. So I would say that’s the best way to gouge that it’s working, not whether you’re losing weight every day.
Thank you, that’s super helpful to know, I will grit my teeth and do away with the sugar from tomorrow
Wish me luck
Natasha, when we’re fasting we lose about half a pound of fat per day. Big people, maybe just a little more. So we can expect the scale to go down an average of 3 or 4 lbs a week. The day-to-day changes can get easily masked by more of less water retention.
When we first start eating ketogenically we tend to lose considerable water weight. That does not repeat unless we go back to our previous habits, eating a lot of carbohydrates, for example. Each fast will mean some initial change, usually a rapid weight loss - but not all that much in the grand scheme of things.
If black coffee is not going to do it for you, I’d say try something else besides sugar - that really is counter-productive. Artificial sweeteners act differently with different people, but sugar is definitely going to make your body blast out more insulin, and that’s what brought most of us to the point where we realized we had to change something.
Please be careful and abort the fast if you experience any issues. Fasting like this is not advised.
Good morning Matt,
Lucky for me my husbands is a paramedic and has been monitoring me throughout the 30 days
So far no side affects apart from initial Hunger and being grouchy my body appears to be resounding favourably.
Regards
