Was on the Fence Till I listened to 2ketodudes

The start to my story was that I was 230lbs and tried to get life insurance. My A1C was at 6.7, my cholestrol was high, my triglycerides were high, and I was a mess. I ended up getting a wakeup call that I needed to become healthier. I started as just cutting out processed sugars and eating whole foods vs processed food. I ended up losing 30lbs over the course of a year and a half and lowering my A1C to 5.7. I have several very close friends that have been doing the Keto diet for almost a year now. They were not overweight, but just wanted to lose a little bit of belly fat and ended up falling in love with the Keto Lifestyle.

For about 6 months I have been on the fence about starting keto because of the conventional thinking. Then one of my friends linked me to the 2ketodudes podcast and getting the sources to the science on how keto works and that cholestrol isn’t an true indicator for heart disease, sealed the deal.

I have been on keto for 11 days and have dropped 6lbs (probably water weight) but I feel great. Luckily I love to cook and a bit of a foodie so the switch from regular paleo to keto has been simple.

Well done. From prediabetic and slowly killing your beta cells faster than you can grow new ones at 6.7 … to 5.7 and making them faster than you can kill them. With keto you’ll likely drop another 0.5 and that will mean you are 7% less likely to have a heart attack (the relative risk is 14% increase for each % point of HbA1c).

I actually had blood drawn on Wednesday last week for life insurance again. 3rd day on keto when they drew the blood, so i kind of know what my baselines are. A1C was at 5.2 prior to keto. I am excited to see how keto effects that. I do believe that my LDL is a little bit higher because I use plenty of good oils (olive, coconut, and avocado) for cooking and salad dressings.

My results prior to keto.

Cholesterol - 220mg/dL
HDL - 40mg/DL
LDL - 150mg/DL
Cholestrol/HDL Ratio - 5.5
LDL/HDL Ratio - 3.76
Triglycerides - 148mg/dL
Blood Glucose - 83mg/dL
A1C - 5.2%

I know my doctor will probably get on me about my cholesterol once I go in for my yearly exam and I’m sure my cholesterol numbers will be up, but now I can argue my case with the links to the science sources provided by the podcasts.

Good work. Keep it up and your lowish HDL will rise, and your highish triglycderides will come down.
Don’t sweat the cholesterol, it is a distraction from more important things…

Ask your doc if he/she is personally familiar with the research linking elevated cholesterol to heart disease. Demand to see it and be persuaded of its truth.

You are Galileo. Ask to see evidence of the earth’s primacy in the universe, because it looks like something else is happening out there.

That was my plan when I have my yearly checkup. I have the source links handy also to be able to have a civiled debate with him if he can’t show me the science/facts to back it up.
