Waking early every day

I’ve been Keto for 3 months now and it’s going great. My ketones are between 1.0 and 2.4, morning blood sugar ranges from 75 to 90, and I’ve lost 25 pounds.

Prior to going keto I had zero issue sleeping. Since starting keto I still fall asleep quickly and sleep soundly, however at 4:00am to 4:30am EVERY morning I wake up and then stay in a state of light, disturbed rest until around 6:00am.

I’ve seen things about about hormone spikes early in the morning. I’ve also read about blood sugar dropping too low. I have measured BS at 4:00am and it’s normal.

I’ve played with the timing of my meals as well as intermittent and 24-hour fasting, nothing seems to make a difference.

Any ideas of what this might be or what I should be checking up on to investigate further?

Thanks!

I have this same issue. The sleep from 10:30pm to 4am is fabulous and easy, but after that it’s just crap. I’ve tried changing things up and other stuff, but nothing natural helps.

I’ve finally (this week) started popping a benadryl when I wake up at 4am. Those suckers knock me out for another 2-3 hours, and I feel better. It’s not the fix I want, and I’m not telling anyone to medicate their sleep. I’m mostly just here to say I know that feeling.

I have been waking up 30mins - 1 hour before my alarm goes off every morning for the past 3 weeks. At first I would try to stay in bed and sleep. It was the terrible rest, and just made me a little bit more grogy. So I started just getting out of bed and starting my day when I wake up and I feel great the entire day.

I would suggest pushing your bed time back later if you want to wake up at 6am well rested. Or just follow what your body is telling you and wake up at 4:00-4:30AM and start your day. You can get a lot done before everybody else wakes up!

Get up and be productive - your body is saying so, listen to it. If that’s not enough sleep, your body will tell you and you can adjust moving forward. Don’t get caught up with the clocks if you dont have to.

Thanks for the comments and ideas. I don’t think my body is telling me to get up because it’s rested. I’ve attempted to just get up and after a couple of days I find myself run down, tired and in need of naps. I’m a morning person and when my feet hit the floor I’m 100% ready to roll. The 4:00am wake up is something quite different than being fully rested and it’s quite annoying.

Maybe go to bed later? I’ve found I only need about 6.5 hours sleep on keto instead of the 7.5 I got before.

It happens to me too, but I kind of like it

I’ve noticed this since the first few days of starting keto. I’m in week 3 and when I wake up, I’m up. Body feels good and rested so I’m figuring my body has what it needs. I’m up early every day and do something productive with that time. Before Keto, I would wake up feeling tired and sleep another hour or two. It’s the biggest change I have experienced so far besides being down 20lb

Been listening to “Why we sleep” and definitely you need 8 hours of sleep.

Same issue here. Waking At 4 am for months and now it’s getting earlier …3ish all this week! (Down 69 lbs on Keto for 14 months.) Feel awesome (BP Down to normal, awesome energy) but I need my sleep! I work from home so I can always sneak in a mid-day power nap but I miss my eight hours! Gonna read WHY WE SLEEP now. Then maybe I’ll try a really boring movie

I actualy like this side effect.
Before going keto 10 pm was the start of my night eating while reading or playing. I would barely wake up in the morning and I would feel awful.
Now I do get real sleepy at 10 pm, I do not eat in the night anymore, I can push myself to stay awake longer, the sleepy sensation will pass away if I manage to pass 11:30 pm or find a really good book.
I wake up at 5 am and it’s great, I arrive at work at 7 am and can leave first
The most interesting thing was during the new year celebration: Was at a party till 3 am, went to sleep at 4 am, woke up at 6 am without being tired or anything, feeling like every morning and going on a bike ride.
I reached the conclusion that normal sleep for humans if between 6 and 8 hours but not more !!
