Vitamin C and fat metabolism

(Deb) #1

Since I have been feeling really run-down, irritable, sniffily, etc. in the past few months especially, I revisited my supplements protocol. One thing I never replenished is my vitamin C. Big mistake there, not only because of the keto WOE, which isn’t bad if you eat you veggies every day (which I don’t), but I have other factors which deplete C (and potassium).
While confirming some other symptoms of C deficiency, I had forgotten about it’s interesting role in fat metabolism: from the NIH…

“Individuals with adequate vitamin C status oxidize 30% more fat during a moderate exercise bout than individuals with low vitamin C status; thus, vitamin C depleted individuals may be more resistant to fat mass loss.”

I had this concern too and was directed to sauerkraut… It’s now a favorite with hotdogs, mayo and mustard.

I have also started supplementing with C and lysine as I was getting some skin issues related to a deficiency of c. I have also started eating cabbage again for the K

I like some veggies but I wouldn’t eat cabbage or sauerkraut if my life depended on it!
I had no idea it was high in C.

Cabbage is high in Vitamin K and has C as well as some of the B vitamins. And it tastes way better raw.

I know a lot of people with that same thought, so its not uncommon.
