Just some downtime readings if you are bored today

Mixed in w some SAD recommended eating habits

So… I think this article is using the actual risk vs relative risk numbers game.

It said there were 10 fewer cases of heart disease, but three more cases of stroke for the vegetarians/vegans.

Altogether, there were 2850 cases of heart disease and 1072 cases of stroke. Based upon the above numbers, that would mean the meat eaters had 1430 cases of heart disease and the vegetarians/vegans had 1420 cases.

It would be similar for the stroke numbers (truncated numbers): 537 strokes for meat eaters, 540 for vegetarians/vegans.

So, if I calculated the chance of having CVD as a meat eater it would be 5.83% and as a vegetarian is would be 5.79%. For strokes it would be 2.19% for meat and 2.20% for veg.

Why, oh why are these kind of numbers considered significant? I’d love to know what the percent error is in these numbers. I’m soooooo sick of this kind of reporting!

P.S. I am up for error correction if I calculated to actual risk of having stroke of heart disease incorrectly.

Nice research!
Thanks for sharing :slightly_smiling_face:

A risk ratio of 1.13 is not all that significant. The ratio for lung cancer is something like 10 to 30 times greater for smokers than non-smokers, depending on the study. That is a clear, hugely significant effect, one where epidemiological data actually can help establish causality. One and thirteen hundredths is nothing, in comparison.

The study doesn’t mention what else was in the diet of the participants. I wonder if any of them ate low-carb/keto.

How is risk ratio computed?

Since you asked:

So, what you’re saying is that creating your vegan or vegetarian meals kills no animals? And does not harm the soil? You might take a listen to this:

Oops. I think I misinterpreted what you were saying as being pro-vegan. Sorry.
