Vacation success

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #1

Visited my in-laws for 3 days this past weekend and was worried. I’m a recovered pre-t2d and wanted to stay keto.

My mother-in-law doesn’t really get what a carb is but my wife mentioned bacon and eggs and a few other things and we were off to see if we could maintain keto without upsetting the wife’s parents.

Well, let me tell you it was a success. She had 6 lbs of bacon and 3 dozen eggs ready for us. Lunch meat, cheese, green olives, olive oil and more. We brought with us some leafy green variety (spinach, arugula, and kale) and a lot of frozen home cooked pulled pork BBQ.

I decided to drink some red wine each day and stayed ketogenic.

I kept thanking her for helping us and she smiled and loved the feedback.

It helps that one of her sons that lives locally is lower carb (<50g) and has improved biomarkers.

Everyone got tired of me saying “Bacon is Life”, even my oldest who is keto. But Bacon is Life :bacon::bacon::bacon::bacon::fried_egg::fried_egg::fried_egg:

Hurray for supportive family!

Nice! I spent nearly a week with my son and daughter in law, dreading in advance the dietary issues that were going to arise. They know I’m keto, since we went to Disney together in March. But my 45 year old normal weight son, who dabbled in Paleo for years, had a double bypass last June after having symptoms of a potential heart problem. He had two major arteries completely blocked, including the well-known “widowmaker.”

So my daughter in law is DEATH on red meat. I wasn’t happy about chowing down bacon and burgers in front of her and making her uncomfortable(and making my son hungry lol). But to my surprise, she was really supportive and did her best to make dishes I could actually eat(without red meat, of course.)

Sometimes family really does come through for us!

Wow, isn’t that grand! There are damned few mothers-in-law who would take the trouble. You are blessed!
