Using Bone Broth

(Pennie Malone) #1

What are your favourite recipes to use bone broth?

I know before I’d use it as a base for soups, gravies and would pour a little over cooked veg but I’d always have loads left by the time I had another batch of bones ready

#2

I add salt and drink it.

There is a fasting protocol, where you drink only bone broth. Works great for doing 36-48 hr. fasts.

I also do the uses you listed. I love it as a base for soups.

I’ve tried drinking it straight in the past but I couldn’t keep it down as it was so fatty from the chicken skin that was in it

If I have a pure bone broth it’ll probably be more drinkable

I tend to make my broth from beef or sheep bones and salt. It gets quite gelatinous but is nice and thick when mixed with hot water. Then add salt to taste. The ‘jelly’ is protein. I collect the fat off the top and use that in cooking. I tend to avoid chicken or pork as they may be too high in Omega 6 fatty acids.

I did try making fish bone broth once. Only once.

Leftover bones, water, salt. Thats it.
A pressure cooker is a must.

Oh yes a pressure cooker makes a huge difference. I’ve used slow cooker in the past but have a new ninja foodi and used the pressure setting yesterday. The bones came out soft

I just have so much to use, I’m looking for recipes to use it with that isn’t having it as a drink as it is quite a fatty broth as it had some skin and fat chunks in it too
