Urgggg ! Can't find good Keto breath mints!

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #1

I have looked high and low, but nearly every “sugar free” breath mint on the market either has, instead, has either Xylitol or Sorbitol ! …which can have 2/3rds as many carb cals straight table sugar. Because of this, most of these mints contain 1 carb, or more. Now I know that 1 carb doesn’t seem significant, but I know I could easily eat 20 of them in a full day of driving, and be at my 20 gm per day limit on carbs… And I have not even eaten any real food yet !

I swear I’m fixing to try to make my own breath mints… I’d use mostly peppermint oil, and Sucralose ! Bam ! That would be a real Keto breath mint !

BTW, on the weekends, I drive a TON with passengers (ride share) and I really don’t eat much (fasting) so my breath tends to get rough, at the worst time and place for bad breath :frowning:

Ha :slightly_smiling_face: Brainstorm…
It doesn’t have to be “hard candy” mints per say…

Do I’m fixing to get a little dropper bottle. Fill it 3/4’s with water. Then start putting a drop at a time with straight peppermint oil, and another drop at a time of sucralose, until I hit the perfect mix … Which for me would be strong, yet Sweet

I’m going to try this for sure. Will report back…

I bought peppermint extract and put a few drops in water in a little spray bottle. Easy-peasy.

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #4

And I thought I was doing something revolutionary  lol
But yes, I’m going to basically do the same thing… Except I’m going to sweeten it with Sucralose :slightly_smiling_face:
A little spray bottle is a great idea… One handed instead of two, with a dropper. Hmmm. Where to find little spray bottles ?

Probably, Amazon, like everything else :slightly_smiling_face: I swear I buy do much random stuff from Amazon, at least weekly !

(Susan) #5

I would just check at your local dollar store; Chris, it will be a lot cheaper than Amazon =).

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #6

Probably… I’m just an Amazon addict ! :grinning: Lol

I use these! Oops! Sucralose :joy::joy::joy::rofl::rofl:

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #8

I’ve used those too. I liked them a lot… But they were expensive, plus in a hot car, I’ve went to pull one or two out, had them stick together, and I pull the whole containers worth out !

('Jackie P') #9

:slightly_frowning_face: no such luck in the UK! I like a pack in my pocket on a 12 1/2 hour shift or in my bag.

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #10

I’m just pre-revolutionary.

Man-up and go look in the cosmetics department for little spray bottles. Maybe with travel things. That’s where I get my little salt boxes too.

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #11

Does Wal Mart even have a cosmetics Dept ? :grinning: Lol

Wait. Okay. I saw that area before…

If I get in there soon, I’ll see if they have those. Thank you.

Altoids only have 3g of carbs for 2 mints (so, 1.5g each).

Yes, it’ll be great when they make them with alcohol sugars, but it’s not enough to get in a tizzy over unless you’re eating them by the handful.

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #13

Well first off, I dont eat a handful at a time…
But I might eat a handful in a day, and that in itself, is enough to use up my daily 20gm carb allowance.
Secondly, most of the alcohol sugars they use in place of sugar, is still 2/3rds as many carb cals as actual sugar, so I’m not hoping for that either. They need to make Sucralose breath mints with zero carb cals !

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #14

Ya da  so I found about a half bottle (1oz) of this stuff in my GF’s cabinet…

Poured it in a 2oz Cobalt Boston round bottle with atomizing sprayer… And added 10 drops of this stuff…
SucraDrops 4 oz Bottle of Premium Liquid Sucralose Sweetener, 2,720 Servings, Free Travel Size Bottle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VL9Q4WW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_oJFADbBSG61PE

And Bam ! One spray and whooosh ! Super strong, but no weird aftertaste :slightly_smiling_face: And most importantly, zero carbs :slightly_smiling_face:

I even found that Watkins peppermint extract, six 2oz bottles for like $15. I think that will last me years :slightly_smiling_face:

I use Sula brand, mint humbugs when I can’t stand my own breath :joy:.
They are sweetened with isomalt and sucralose and don’t impact my blood sugar, they taste great and really freshen my mouth…think they are available worldwide.

Sula - Boiled Sweets - Mint Humbugs - 42g

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #16

Well I looked those up, and they sounded really tasty ! Unfortunately, they are 3gms of carbs each :slightly_frowning_face: So for me to have a bag of those in my car on a weekend, would be a disaster. I’m sure I would eat 10 or more, which would put me way over my 20gm a day carb limit, without even eating any real food yet !

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #17

I had to look that up. Apparently, it is just a cobalt bottle. Learn something new every day!

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #18

I never knew what they were called either… But have bought several in Amber and Cobalt blue lately, for different things. Starting with home made vanilla extract :slightly_smiling_face:

(Liz) #19

Oh heck! I was not counting them as carbs by subtracting the polyols…fortunately I only eat one a day max and not every day and as I tend to eat carbs only from cream or cheese it hasn’t been an issue. Please let us know if the breath spray suggestion works, sounds like it could be a solution for alot of us :handshake:

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #20

Well, only for those of us who are not afraid of Sucralose :slightly_smiling_face: lol

I actually did try to hit it straight without any sweeteners and it wasn’t terrible… But didn’t have such a great aftertaste . The Sucralose helped a lot.
