What does moderate protein mean? I’ve read several posts, in that there is mixture of different mathematical formulas. I’ve picked the < 20 g of carbs, moderate protein and high fat (or fat to satiety.) I don’t know what that means. I’m sure I sound like an idiot, but I need concrete directions. I put my numbers in the online calculator and came up with 127 g Fat, 102 g Protein, and 20 g Carbs. Can anyone tell me what this converts to? I’m so frustrated with this sometimes. I’ve just been doing 1 meal a day and guestimating. But maybe I’m eating too much fat or too much protein. My blood glucose is STILL above 100 when fasting. It has come down a lot in the last almost 4 weeks. I just feel like chewing my fingers off and would contemplate piracy for a piece of buttermilk pie.
Up to my eyeballs in numbers
It helps us to know how tall you are, and if you know your lean body mass (there are online calculators to help you guess).
To find out what you are eating without guessing, enter your daily foods into an online food diary like My Fitness Pal or something similar to get a feeling for how much food equals how many macros. After awhile it will become easier.
ohhhh wow! that’s what I’m talking about. ok I will start utilizing My Fitness Pal.
Unless you have some sort of eating disorder, you were probably already eating an appropriate amount of protein. Most Americans don’t over or under eat protein.
IMO, if you light on what seems like a reasonable amount, just stick with that until you are more experienced. You don’t need to be overly concerned with details at the start; you can wade into the weeds later. The most important consideration is carbohydrates.
Thank you Buttonwillow. I feel pretty good about my carbs. I pretty much stay to a diet of bacon, eggs, avocado, pecans, greek yogurt, butter and chicken thighs. It’s a little boring but I figure I can change it up as I get more confident. I just would like to see a little more weight loss and lower blood glucose. My BG numbers have dropped in daily average from 296 to 181. I’m pretty sure that’s what’s keeping me from losing weight
Then again it’s only been 4 weeks.
FWIW, I frequently see blood glucose readings of around 104 or so when fasting.
This article explains several reasons why this might be the case…
Thank you KevinB! That article was very interesting and answered a great many questions.
