I was wondering if anyone had any foods they eat as a dessert or snack that didnt have any sweeteners, including berries. Thanks, I’ve decided to cut out the sweeteners because I believe they cause me to eat more and go crazy.
Unsweetened no sweetener added "desserts"
I eat raw cacao butter chunks as a dessert sometimes… straight out of the bag. It tastes like rich, bitter chocolate to me.
Good idea, I have a block in my drawer now. I think I should get the wafers to make it easier.
I do whipped cream nothing added to it, berries and a small square of montezuma’s no sugar 100% chocolate
I get a few tablespoons of plain greek yoghurt and add things like dried coconut flakes, chia seeds, slivered almonds, pepitas etc and maybe throw in a berry or two.
pork rinds
cheese
boiled or deviled eggs
low carb nuts
The bottom 3 items do have small trace amounts of natural sugars. Cheese and eggs typically have less than 1 gram of sugar but nuts have a few more, hence more carbs and something you should limit.
Trader Joe’s Mascarpone Cheese (8 oz wheel). Cut into quarters. Optionally topped with whipped cream.
Sprinkle cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice on top in whatever ratio you like. Optionally add crumbled pecans or walnuts as a topping. Optionally grate some 100% chocolate on top using a rasp-style grater (microplane). It is a cross between a tiramisu and cheesecake.
Another optional topping would be sliced or whole berries, or use one or two as a garnish.
I know you said no berries - so I guess this is a waste, but I like berries and they don’t trigger me bingeing, so another dessert is a couple ounces of raspberries or blackberries, some whipped cream, and nuts on top. Again, optionally with some grated 100% chocolate for additional flavor.
Those are my main “dessert” choices. I sometimes use full-fat yogurt (Fage Total 5% plain) with berries instead of whipped cream, but that’s usually for breakfast.
Ordinary cream cheese.
A few pecans or almonds.
Hot cocoa made with no sweetener. Make it as you would instant coffee: 1 heaping teaspoon cocoa powder,** add hot water (stir like crazy), some cream if you want it.
** The kind of unsweetened cocoa you use for baking.
Unsweetened chocolate (Baker’s brand is cheap yet tasty)
Pork rinds (chicharrones)
Bacon
Brie cheese, especially warmed and buttered
Pepperoni
Bacon
Yoghurt, especially Greek yoghurt, with heavy cream or crème fraîche mixed in (berries optional)
Coffee with heavy cream
Bacon
Roasted almonds
Thanks so much. I have some brie but haven’t touch it since I tried it at room temp only, I though it was revolting. I will have to try it heated with butter when I get off of work. Last night I tried the bakers unsweetened chocolate by itself and I found it surprisingly good.
IKR? When I started keto, it tasted far too bitter to be edible, lol!
1 cup double cream (HWC in the US) whip and then stir in the finely grated rind of a lemon. Makes 2 portions. Top with raspberries or eat without… so yummy!
If you’re not in a rush, you can also make a ‘base’ for this. 1/2 cup round almonds, 1tbsp butter, pinch of salt. Mix and bake in oven (160c) for 20-25 minutes until golden.
