Understanding Nutrition

(Jason ) #1

So I have been interested in finding out more of the science behind nutrition, and found out what classes are required for the ACEND accredited RD courses near me. I decided to audit one of the first level courses and see how it compares with my chem eng bachelors, and so far it’s interesting. Today I came across this, tho, and had a bit of a chuckle. Just sharing the knowledge…

Five years ago, the “carbohydrate” web page from Iowa State University’s “Human Sciences” college said:

“The minimum recommended intake of carbohydrates necessary for survival is 130 grams or 520 kcal per day. However, this level is recommended only to support the central nervous system, red blood cell production, and tissues dependent on glucose; it does not support any physical activity.”
