Type 1 Diabetic Keto for 10 months but concerned about my heart and cholesterol. NMR and Lipid panel history included

I am 38 years old and have been type 1 Diabetic for 30. I have been Keto under 30gr carbs per day for 10 months(Dr Bernstein way of eating). Those carbs come mostly from green vegetables and other fibrous sources. No hidden carbs. I am insulin dependent diabetic so know how to read labels, etc. I went from 235lbs to 186lb. My A1C went from 7-8 range for the past 30 years to 5.3 A1C steady. However my cholesterol is all kinds of crazy and I need help understanding it and what I should do.
I am usually fasting 18-20 hours a day other than 1 tbl heavy cream with morning coffee and a large keto dinner. I had to start this routine to continue the weight loss as I plateued eating 3 meals a day around 200lbs.

I am almost insulin resistant taking about 1 unit of fast acting to drop myself 10 points of glucose. I am hoping the IF will help with this as I drop the viceral fat. It is starting to help and my dosages are becoming slightly more effective more often which is further helped when I do some mild weight lifting or resistance training. (dumbells, planks, squats, push ups)

The NMR I just got shows very high trigs and lower HDL than my ongoin lipid panel and I am very confused…

Welcome to the forums!

That is a lovely HbA1C. You are doing very well there.

The lipid numbers are interesting. I have no idea why the variance between the July 20 numbers and the NMR numbers, unless you are one of Dave Feldman’s lean-mass hyper-responders. Check out his Web site, www.cholesterolcode.com, for more information.

One thing Dave has discovered is that lipid numbers are more variable than we suppose. He has also worked out how a lean-mass hyper-responder can manipulate the results of a lipid panel, by eating in a certain way in the days leading up to the test. This has been useful to ketonians who need “proper” numbers to satisfy their job, or a life insurance company, etc.

Thank you. I feel much better now and I am much thinner and still more to lose I am just concerned about my heart. :frowning: I sure don’t want to go back to eating carbs however. I feel sick now even when my blood sugar is mildly elevated my body has gotten used to 5.3 and likes it!

Take a look at this video. Professor Diamond is a neurophysiologist by profession, but got interested in lipidology when his LDL went through the roof and his doctor tried to put him on a statin.
