Trouble losing "pot belly" fat

(Tricia Skiles) #1

Hi Keto freaks! Newbie here .
I did a search but didn’t see this question. My husband and I have been on keto for 5 weeks, my husband is 52, 6’1" and 180lbs now (has lost 20 pounds) He still has a “pot belly” (doesn’t drink alcohol). Any suggestions on how to lose it or reasons why it’s not shrinking. He’s only lost about 1" in his belly, his arms and legs are skinny.
Thank you!!

is he t2d?

No, but honestly hasn’t been tested :expressionless: so I guess it’s possible?

Keep calm and keto on. I don’t think you can target where the fat is lost from. He could be losing from a fatty liver. Also he could be building muscle under that fat. You could do a DEXA scan or just stick with it.

@Peter thanks for your response! Do you have any idea what aDEXA scan might cost? We’re in Texas with no insurance. We are definitely sticking with it :grinning:!

THIS!!!

Yes I get that, I guess he just needs more time to continue to lose more fat then? Patience grasshopper lol

Does he do any fasting?

I have lost around 47 lbs since Jan and the only thing that bugs me now about how I see myself is that last 5 lbs left around the midsection. First world problems right? It is most evident when I’m doing push-ups or planks without a shirt on. I look back and there it is. My little bag of skin and remaining chub. It mocks me. Challenges me to KCKO. Challenge accepted.

It took your husband 52 years to get where he is now. Correction in five weeks is, well, irrationally optimistic. At 55, I’ve gone from a 44 to 38 waist, (after 12 months) and I’m still reducing at the waist.

LCHF/Keto is about getting right with food. Weight and fat loss are the bacon on the top of this rightly understood healthy living. Give it time, it will (most likely, barring any unique medical condition) be rewarding.

Yes, we do IF, our eating window is 12-8 pm. We’ve done 2, 24 hour fasts in the past 5 weeks

Autophagy from longer water fasts can get rid of extra skin. Of course it can’t be localized and it will eat up what it wants to.

I had one here in North Carolina recently, and it was $75 out of pocket.

(Tricia Skiles) #14

Oh his belly is tight, not loose skin yet. @MiKetoAF do you think more 24 hour fasts will still help?

(Tricia Skiles) #15

@Wade that was without insurance?

(Tricia Skiles) #16

@Frank great attitude! Keto on my friend!!

(Wade Minter) #17

Yes - just cash for the scan, no insurance involved.

(Pete A) #18

Time is your husbands friend. Im the same weight now since April and pot belly shrinking. I expect to be the same weight but with no belly by, uh, February? :grinning:

It’s not “trouble”, it is what it is!

I got a DEXA a couple of weeks ago in Little Rock, AR for $50 cash, no insurance helped me to pay. The place I found charges $50 for the first DEXA scan and only $35 for all subsequent ones. TOTALLY WORTH IT! I used this place: https://www.radconlittlerock.com/ - I called and was able to make an appointment for that same week. It was surprisingly easy.

That’s not bad
