Your rib roast looks fab, better than my little silverside roasts i picked up cheap … well what i thought was gping to be cheap anyway…

Raymond is 85, 20 years older than me. He said he was fine after yesterdays dance but he got distracted after turning the hot tap on in the kitchen and flooded his bungalow … he had popped to the loo and then his neice phoned him and at the same time Strictly came on TV and he is an avid fan so that tap must have been running quite some time! He reckons there was at least 1.5inches of water in the kitchen and hallway and took him till about 4am to clean it up as he has difficulties bending down with gis metal knees. Apparently all the lower cabinets were wet through too but fortunately he had some lovely young visitors from the church and they just got stuck in helping him. Bless them, theyre students at the university. I am surprised he didnt call me last night to help but may have just felt a bit stupid flooding the place and was too embarrassed to ask… i didnt mention anything… i am learning not to speak what i might be thinking lol :joy::joy:

Loving Bolts little perky face under the worktop

Today was a bright, sunny, summer day. Bit hot for a black Labrador beach walk, so we walked Billie in the water. This is the beach that fronts the country town on a calm bay. Summer is slowly heating up, 29.5’C (85F) today.

Last night Mrs. Bear and guest ate fish and salad. I ate a big rib steak and some goat cheese. They drank red wine. I drank sparkling water.

2MAD, eggs and bacon breakfasts, continue. Lamb chops planned for tonight. Drinking salty beef bone broth daily as I am doing homestead chores that are out in the sunshine and a bit sweaty. Just cruising along on plan on Summer Break.

Tell me more about your plan adjustments, please. That GK ratio is amazing. Very therapeutic and anti-inflammatory. Was it the food volume but maintaining satiety that took you there?

I’m at about 0.8 mmol/l for ketones and 5.5 mmol/l blood glucose when fasted. Feeling pretty good at that level.

I’m going to hit the deer farm farm shop this week to lock and load a sure-thing carnivore Christmas, and try to dodge a lentil loaded Cypriot summer salad fest. Brother-in-law has promised me smoked brisket. Problem is, he messed up the last one, and it was dry and stringy. I’m going to be packing an emergency stash of air-dried raw beef, South African-style, soft biltong for the whole trip to the city.

#146

I’d also be interested in learning more about what you’re eating, @Azi.

I tested for the first time the other day. I had 3.6 mmol/l (65 mg/dL) blood glucose a couple of hours after eating, and had 4.8mmol/l (86 mg/dL) blood glucose after an 18 hour overnight fast (with a busy/stressful morning).

Ketones were the same as yours, @FrankoBear, at 0.8 - but I put it down to having introduced some fairly high-carb dairy for 2 months.
I’m curious to see if they go up now I’ve cut the high-carb dairy out.

Would love to know your current food though, @Azi - I strongly suspect that my ketones suffer when I don’t add extra fat to my meat.

Beauty pics of meat on the thread as usual!

@Karen18, oh I thought Raymond was a tad younger. for 85 tho and dancing and do doing heck I say he got it made so far!! Wild about the water flooding and leaving on the tap. I gotta say getting distracted is so easy to do  but wow water issues like that is a mess I hate to clean up!

@FrankoBear
living the life!! Billie also!
Meals sound wonderful. I don’t like oversmoked dry meats either. Very smart to pack emergency stuff for a just in case. I carried much zc food with me thru my years when required

@Septimius :wave: Nice to see ya post, hope all is well!!

---------------SO last nights Tbone was so chewy. ugh. But of course I ate it but darn when you see such a nice piece of meat on the plate and it gives that less than stellar anticipated return, well you guys know :scream_cat:

woke up with a slight headache. sinus. behind the eyes pressure type thing. Kinda feel very ‘sluggy moving’, didn’t bounce out of bed full speed as usual, kinda had to drag myself out LOL Hubby is sick with some crud. Me and kiddo seem fine. Hope he isn’t sending anything my way but I don’t feel icky sicky, I feel sinus issues as usual for me. Some OTC drugs to the rescue.

keeping food simple today. no draw. Might defrost a few chicken breasts. got burgers too so I think that will be simple enough when I want something.

Quiet day I think for me around here. ZC ON strong guys!

Forgot to post yesterday other than replying to @Fangs.

Had a crappy sleep the night before … alarm was set … say no more! It was set for my CrossFit session and when i got up i did my BP reading as i always do 1st thing and there is definitely a trend … it was spiked, not massively but up enough to see whats going on … i looked back at each morning of a CF session and yep the trend was obvious, a noteable spike every time! I mean we’re only talking about 144 - 154/whatever but as i have got it down to 107 - 124/less than whatever, it makes it clear that i do have some anxiety issues about getting to the session and geting through whatever workout there is planned. Silly really because i enjoy it once i am there and can usually keep up with everyone else, if not surpass some! I am not worrying about it but it is interesting to me. When i note the BP reading i always note what exercise i have done for he day next to it and its good to see trends appearing. More often than not my BP is lower after i have done my stair running. I always take the reading afterwards because if i come dwnstairs and get distracted i know i wont get doing them!

Anyway as per i had a really great CF session, it was teams of 4 and because there was a bike ergo involved i chose to attach myself, whether they liked it or not, to 3 burly guys as i dislike the bike lol. They seemed unphased by me joining them … strengths and weaknesses. We did a chipper… one of team had to be on bike while other 3 di the different exercises and we changed round and had turns on bike. Score at end was the k’s on the bike. So it was 40 cleans, 80 handstand push ups, 120 ab mat situps, 320 db snatches, and back down again to 40 cleans and then in remaining time we all had blastout 30sec turns on the bike to finish. The bike was the absolute killer for me and my little skinny legs lol

Got home did some more reading as i had done a bit before going out, had another black coffee too and then later had a bite to eat… well more than a bite i suppose, i think it was either 750g or a kilo of chicken wings that i put a bit of jerk spice on. It took me 3 sittings to get through it all, 2 of which were cold sittings lol and one was after i returned home from a lovely spa get together catch up with my daughter Sian. It was a late vidit to spa she picked me up about 7.45pm and we stayed till 9pm so the last 3 chicken wings were eaten about 9.30pm followed by a tin of tuna.

Yes for me its portions as soon as I up my portions it affects everything even too much fat makes me gain and affects blood glucose so no two sticks of butter for me at first it def helped make my skin better got my hunger under control but from there i started gaining even more…blood sugar numbers have been getting better and better for me with small portions I don’t add extra fat to my meat but i dont eat lean either im happy for example to eat yummy fatty bacon or short ribs or pork belly or add a pinch of cheese to things I am however adding fat to my coffee And im drinking 4 cups lol but my blender cup is prob 32ounces and i make two… Todays fasted numbers. Also I been eating all my food in earlier so I don’t usually eat later in the day… does it change things some ppl think so…

Well i spent most of my day indoors. Still quite bitter outside but supposed to be warming up tonight and back to double figures tomorrow for a day or so before plummeting again

I had brunch about 12.30, 2 beef burgers which look toasted on the outside but were very rare inside and quite tasty. About 3pm i decided to brave the elements and go to the Company Shop for some bargains. Picked up a whole cooked chicken, 5 ribeyes and 1 sirloin, 1kg chicken wings, couple of packs of smoked back bacon, 4 packs of unsmoked bacon and a pack of cooked turkey strip . Also got 6 small ready meals for Raymond and 6 nush yogurts for my daughter … its the only one she can eat with her PCOS and they are really expensive… even in The Company Shop but obviousy discounted as near use by date. They dont aways have them in stock so a case of get 'em when ya see 'em!

Then went to Asda to get a codeword book and found some lamb chops reduced and also some gluten free pigs in blankets for Sian (again her PCOS diet) and 2 chicken fillets with sauce n crappy stuff in it for Raymond. All reduced.:thinking::thinking: did well today

So i also picked up a small chunk of vintage cheddar and vintage red leicester and so i have eaten a tad bit this evening and also one leg and one wing off the cooked chicken. Dont fancy anything else.

Forgot to mention i still managed to complete 100 push ups yesterday after the CrossFit and have done them today. Feel a bit stiff today after yesterday workout but i am sure that is a good thing lol

always lovin’ these beauty pics on the board!

---------simple day today. running up to my little local store that has a smokehouse. maybe a brisket? but darn they heavy load the rub ya know and I have been avoiding it but maybe I will just buy a brisket and do a light rub of my own so I can control it. Yea buy and cook. OK talked myself into that one

got chicken and burger to eat also. Never have an issue on what to truly eat but I do like 1 big yummy main meal as my first meal of the day so yea, brisket and if they don’t have any on the shelf that suits me, I might just buy a big ol’ smoked boston butt. Yes they do that yummy for sure. Either way I am coming home with meat in my back pocket HA

ZC forward all!

We have smoked mackerel now but the camera battery died and I am not sure I find the charger, it’s needed rarely and only Alvaro used it… But he will eat something else for lunch and I hopefully nothing so maybe there will be a photo of the leftover half  It was nice but not as enjoyable as months ago. Too salty for me. But if I eat it with enough other stuff, it’s okay. Some items are so salty that nothing helps, I don’t even feel the flavor below the burning salt flavor.

I try to eat up with beef liver in the next day… Okay, I know I can but it’s way too strong for me now. The tallow and liver flavor, even without any bitterness, it’s much to me now. IDK what is with me, I am so choosy… I remember I easily ate beef liver with quiche last time. Now I will have my usual sponge cakes.

I tasted Alvaro’s dish with the tender smoked pork hock in it… I so loved that thing even without meat… Now it seems pointless. I ate proportionally much meat with it, of course, some more alone too and now I don’t feel I have any right for more :upside_down_face: I have smoked pork hock in the freezer (one piece is always too huge for whatever dish Alvaro makes with it), it’s just not pressure cooked for an extra hour so it’s not nearly as tender as I prefer it.
So I am back on carnivore now I suppose even if just for some days but I don’t want to go wild before/at Christmas, no desire for that either, I am just realistic. So carnivore is the plan for now. And skipping lunch. I have to resume baking, that single edible gift is non-negotiable and I still don’t have a perfected recipe with all the ratios of the different layers. Hopefully I can pull it off without tasting the end result. Having a negative desire definitely helps, I need to trust Alvaro’s judgement.
I am not planning cooking meat in the next days as I have enough in the freezer. Pork roast with two different fattiness, almost 1kg sausages… Now I have plenty beef liver as well, a little mackerel… And I am not so much into meat now, I eat more eggs and cheese right now. I need to finish the quark too.

I want to HEAL already. It seems I get better but I want to feel WELL. Yep, skipping lunch sounds good. I had a late night meal yesterday (it was technically today), I got hungry and I had pork hock (well, it’s Alvaro’s now but I found some quite fatty parts and he doesn’t like those…), cheese and sponge cake… It was very enjoyable (I barely could stop eating the meat). Maybe I missed meat again, it happens from time to time and while I did eat various meats lately too, it’s possible that it was not enough. One can never know with my body. Or it was the protein, no idea, I didn’t track.

It’s interesting that you say this. I recently tried a fat fast. I have been slowly gaining weight since I ended my carnivore trial a few years ago. I am also heading into menopause and went back to work full-time, so I figured those were contributing factors. What I have found over time is that my body doesn’t like large meals, which is what I was having when I was intermittent fasting. About a month ago, I went back to three meals a day and my body felt much better, but I gained a few more pounds.

Recently, after reading some posts here on the forum about people who have lost weight after really increasing their fat intake, I decided to try a fat fast for a few days. A fat fast is 80-90% of calories from fat and 1000-1200 calories a day spread over 4-5 meals. It is only supposed to be done for 3-5 days.

I am on the last day today. (Okay, there was a Christmas party on Saturday for which I did indulge for the dinner.) Not only have I dropped several pounds (I’m sure a few are water) but I really like the more sustained energy I have been getting. Sometimes, especially after a big lunch I would just want to pass out as my desk, like a stuffed lion napping after eating a successful kill. I think after today, I am going to really work on keeping the fat macros on the 75% of calories and up and my meals smaller. I definitely like the feeling I’ve had over the past few days.

I want to thank you and @never2late for posting about how more fat has helped you.

(Linda ) #154

I’m not eating sticks of butter but yes my macros are still up 76% … so still high fat but I’m not consuming sticks of butter infact I’m cutting out the cheese and see if that helps anymore…so im using a table spoon of pork panko to make my chaffles crispy now

#155

Had a meal at 6pm, together with Alvaro. No appetite, no feeling I need fuel, hunger was super far from me too but I felt I can eat… It wasn’t big but didn’t track yet so actually I haven’t the slightest idea… It’s not like I can tell apart 1000 kcal and 2000 kcal unless I do it in my very common “pound of pork and few eggs and some dairy” style…
Beef liver, 2 sausages, pancakes with quark and cheese, respectively, 3 cheesy puffs (with sausage instead of the cheese cubes inside but that sausage was counted in the 2), 4 sponge cakes (actually 2 and 1 egg totally losing the fluff while I was waiting for the cheesy puffs) and my lovely fluff dessert I didn’t exactly want but could eat and I surely needed the protein. Some milk too (it is so surprisingly sweet), I still have a lot but I have time.
It’s strange without proper meat but I am glad I could eat my leftovers. We didn’t touch the mackerel today, it will be nice tomorrow, hopefully I will have some appetite then.
It was probably a quite small meal, not tiny due to the sausages… But no idea how small.

(Edith) #156

You may want to try womlettes. They use two slices of bacon (raw) and an egg, a little bit of maple extract (opt). Blend the ingredients in a food processor or blender and pour in the waffle iron. Makes quite the tasty waffle.

I don’t eat dairy, so getting the fat high enough is challenging. It is also difficult to get beef trimmings. Most of the grocery stores around where I live don’t process their meat themselves. I can get pork fat from an ethnic market. I’m going to call the farm where I sometimes buy grass fed beef (it is VERY expensive) and see if they have beef fat, but I don’t remember seeing it there. For now, I have resorted to mayo with avocado oil and coconut oil. I might try to make lard mayo once I render the leaf lard I just bought.

#157

I reread about the info about fat fasts, I really want to do it again. Well not in this insane way, my body isn’t like that. I think I always did OMAD fat fasts. The calorie amount is less than a decent meal, after all and unlike egg fast, I don’t get a severe nausea that I need to stop eating after 2 bites… I enjoyed my fat fasts enough, it wasn’t proper eating but it was fun and unusual  I only remember one enjoyable one that lasted for 1.5 days and then I started to being paranoid about my protein, it’s my thing and probably won’t change. But it was ages ago and I will try again! Back then I found info about 90% fat so I did that or close to that. Now I saw that 80% is fine so one actually can eat more protein, I wonder if it ruins the whole thing for me. I can’t eat low protein, only super low and high according to my experiences BUT I never tried a fat fast with only 80% fat…
I may try 5 meals (in a small eating window, obviously  my 5MAD days are almost always quite IF ones but they have more calories… oh I stop trying to extrapolate) but it makes exactly zero sense to me. If I lose fat, it’s due to the lack of calories as I work that way so I may lose 1 pound if I do it longer than I like. No, it’s more like curiosity and saving money. And balancing out my too high protein intake.

If you have anything to say about your fat fast, I am interested  What kind of dishes you eat there? (It’s fine if not carnivore, I may try some slightly non-carnivore in December because I have better, less off-putting items for that and it’s pretty important). I plant to try carni fat fasts later. I definitely needed plants for my 88-90% fat intake fat fast (on vegetarian keto :D) but 80% is way easier. I don’t have the only super fatty item I can eat without problem right now (pork jowl, 98% fat and I can eat it alone and it’s very enjoyable).
Do you eat the same multiple times or do you have different tiny meals? I saw some meal plans and it was so strange, so tiny snack-like things and they used vegs in many too… Okay, I obviously had vegs on fat fast too but I did vegetarian keto and was in love with my raw juicy vegs. How things changed since then  I am very curious what i could do on a carnivore and on a not carnivore but extreme low-carb fat fast. Maybe I can talk myself into 2 days but I personally consider 1 day potentially very useful for me.

If I have fat fast dishes, I may try what happens on OMAD days if my first meal is fattier… But I doubt those days would end well as if I raise my fat, I overeat. Fat fast is lowering protein without raising my fat (and as I did it, with 1000 kcal, it was lowering fat too, in grams).

How did you feel? What was with satiation? I was totally shocked that I needed only half as many calories as usual on my fat fast day and my satiation was even higher than normal. It was very interesting to try.

I have bacon now and theoretically I could use it but it would require so many eggs and it probably wouldn’t work. So I probably will use sausages as they aren’t so super salty. The fattiness is a wee bit below bacon (of course I use a proper, noble 45% fat sausage ;). 84% in calories) but it doesn’t lose it easily in the pan so I need to add some lard anyway so it actually gets fattier without my tiny omelet feeling too greasy. Yep, it’s a good plan, using my fav dry sausage.

(Linda ) #158

That’s exactly what I’m doing lol put for crispy I was adding a pinch of cheese today I changed that to pork rind panko like 1 table spoons split half below half on top

Try butter mayo also if butter ok for you or gee… it might start out thin but it sets up in fridge they say adding a tablespoon of water makes it more spreadable
Ok I just read about your don’t do dairy…let me know how your lard mayo comes out

(Linda ) #159

If your not hungry and you have no appitie why eat at all? I get your sitting with Alvaro but to eat just for the sake of eating . Nope I do not do that it would just have me over eating

#160

(With some exaggeration, maybe…) I eat because I CAN eat. If I can eat, I almost always eat. I need to have the state where I simply can’t eat to avoid eating, typically. I am that type so it may be way more natural to me

And anyway. I wasn’t perfectly satiated so I ate. 6pm is the last time I can have my first meal properly, breaking my fast later is worse - as far as I know from the very few experiences I had. And it has about zero chance that I don’t get hungry later. I need to be totally satiated (“impossible to eat”) at 6pm to have some chance for it. And I didn’t have that now. So if I would eat anyway, it’s better at the right time.
I just NEVER feel my body is okay to skip a day since years so if I don’t get any urges, I eat at 6pm. It sounds the best idea to me.

I don’t overeat nowadays but undereating is something I don’t like to do either. And I need energy and the best mood I can when this sick and lack of food doesn’t help, I would feel if my body wanted to fast. Sometimes I would give a little push but no, not today. It’s nice to feel satiated.

I tracked as much as I could… I had yesterday’s notes too. Oh yeah, that’s why I ate at late night, I lacked protein. I suspected that.
Today I had a small, lowish protein meal and later a few extras, not surprisingly. But I hopefully finished at 9pm, it’s not too late for me when OMAD simply isn’t on the table… I feel very nicely satiated now so I am hopeful.

(Karen) #161

Brunch was at he Salvation Army 2 eggs (yes they actually jad 2 left this time) and a good portion of bacon. Very nice.

Dinner was the 4 lamb chops i got reduced in asda yesterday. Later i ate the last of the pork chops that had been slow cooked, i seared them to get them hot as i much prrfer pork hot. In between i had come vintage red leciester and some mature cheddar and have just had a bit moe of the cooked chicken i pictured yesterday.
100 push ups completed.
