Trace/low ketones only

(Heather Cox) #1

Hello Everyone. I’m Heather. I’m 43 years old and started Keto 2 1/2 weeks ago. I’ve never been able to get my ketones to register above small on the ketostix. Usually it’s trace in the morning and small be evening. I have lost 9 lbs in the last 2 1/2 weeks so I’m not complaining. Just curious if I am missing something that my ketones do not increase to the Moderate or Strong levels. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thank you. This makes me feel better. Any thoughts on the drinks that are supposed to put ketones in your system. Is there any benefit to this if I’m already in ketosis?

As I say to everyone who asks, they’re very good at burning hard earned money but not much else - honestly they’re not any help when your goal is fat loss. Focus on getting your diet right, we will all help with that if needed.

I think I’m doing pretty good. I’m not hungry all the time like I used to be. If fact my stomach can be growling yet i’m not hungry but I know it’s time to eat. It’s weird! I can get thru a workout without feeling like my energy is too low. I’m losing weight. It all seems to be clicking. So I’ll just quit worrying about the ketostix as long as it’s registering something so I know I’m not out of ketosis right?

Sounds like you’re doing great  Trust how you feel, ketostix really aren’t much help to anyone whose aim is nutritional ketosis for fat loss.

A low value simply means that you’re not spilling ketones into your urine. If you are fat adapted, all that means is that you’re using your ketones instead of wasting them.
