Too low in carbs?

Can it be possible that I am getting too little carbs and this causing headaches?? I am getting at least once a week or a fortnight bad headaches.

I’ve been on this WOE for two months. People have expressed that my electrolytes are prob low but I really don’t think so.

Typical day:

Breakfast:
two slices speck (bacon)
Two eggs salted and pepper scrambled with tablespoon salted butter

Coffee with cream

Lunch/snack: an avocado
Ham or nuts
Sometimes adds a tiny bit of salad

Arvo snack:
Perfect Keto Collagen Choc flavour
Fat bomb (peanut/almond butter, choc and coconut oil)

Dinner:
Meat
Veg or salad
(Could be a warm chick salad, casserole etc)

This afternoon I even ate a heap of pickles to try to alleviate the headache but it didn’t work. I then ate some plain corn chips out of desperation (only 5 chips) but that didn’t help either. :frowning:

Any suggestions??

Sounds like you should be getting plenty of salt from diet, though more never hurts! Magnesium might be the missing ingredient-

In 1968, Wacker and Parisi reported that magnesium deficiency could cause depression, behavioral disturbances, headaches, muscle cramps, seizures, ataxia, psychosis, and irritability - all reversible with magnesium repletion.

Forgot to add I am taking a supplement ‘magnesium and potassium’ two tablets a day = …mag 130mg and pot 66mg day. They say I can take up to4 tablets a day and wonder if I should??

A few questions.

Are you eating 60% of you calories as fat? It looks like you may be a little low.

What caloric deficit are you running? Much lower than 500 per day can cause problems.

What color is your urine? Darker than white or light green can indicate dehydration. It’s important to understand that when in the lipolytic/ketogenic state, due to absence of glycogen, you’re carrying much less water. Dehydration is a common cause of headaches.

Sounds like it. https://examine.com/supplements/Magnesium/#how-to-take says “the standard dose for magnesium supplementation is 200-400mg”.

Hmmm, well I haven’t been logging my food for about a month, so I will def start that again to see exactly where my fat percentage is and what my calorie intake is too.

My urine def is not pale and I’ve noticed that. I am trying my hardest to drink more but I think I need to be extra conscientious about it. I am marking down how many glasses to see just how little I am drinking.

Once I’ve got a few days of logging under my belt I will come back to let you know. :+1:

Yeah, I will up it to 4 tablets a day and see how I go. :+1:

Looks like it is dehydration!! Making sure I really get that water in. Ive found that if I have a cup of tea, first thing in the morning then I am least likely to drink water, but if I get that first glass as water, I am more likely to want water!! Thank goodness summer is approaching as this is a lot easier to do than in Winter.
