Time to give Metformin a go

(Lee Jones) #1

I hate taking meds of any kind and having refused Metformin and ‘reversed’ my T2 diagnosis and kept it in check with a Keto woe I feel I’ve proved my point and have just cashed in my script for a slow release version of Metformin.

I’m hoping this will help me move on from this plateau I’ve been stalled at for the past few months.

Here’s to hoping I can finally get below 16 Stone🤞🏼

I too have just restarted metformin. Check in next week and let us know how you’re doing

So day 2 of slow release Metformin (500mg) and I can see how it aids with weight loss as I haven’t been off the toilet all morning!

Hopefully this won’t drag on too long and once my body adjusts I’ll be ok?

Did you try extended (4+ days) fasting to get past your plateau?
I find that if I don’t eat, I’ll lose weight. And if I eat keto when I do eat, the pounds stay off.
I hope I don’t come across as preachy, I don’t know the road you’ve traveled.

If I could tolerate tea or Coffee without double cream I’m sure a period of fasting would do wonders for me, instead I seem to slip into phases where I’m probably not eating enough but consuming too much through the cream in my beverages to benefit from it.

On a more positive note however, and I’m not sure if it’s coincidence, but my energy levels seem to have picked up the past couple of days. Could this be down to the Metformin already?

I have done at least one 5 day fast a month or more. I still consider it a fast when I have two tablespoons of cream in my coffee one in the morning, the other later in the day. I also consume bone broth during the first two days usually with shiritaki noodles. I do not after that because protein stops autophagy or so some say

I recently have gone from Low Carb to full Keto and I stopped my Metformin because of low blood sugar. I was taking Met for PCOS and insulin resistance. My blood sugar in the morning without the Met has been around 70. Maybe I shouldn’t be concerned?

Anyway, sending good vibes for breaking through the stall.

Lee, you might just try it - who knows? Pretty much a believer in the overall efficacy of “feast/fast” versus calorie restriction here, but I’ve also had quite a few days where I only have a piece of cheese and some pork rinds, for example, maybe 400 - 800 calories in total. On those days I’ve felt good; the last time I was really “hot” through the night - definitely had a revved-up metabolism from something.

I’ve taken Metformin since last April. Not every day - I’ve just plain missed a few days, and usually don’t take it when fasting. Have never noticed any side effects, either way.
