Tim Noakes HPCSA
Dr. Zoë Harcombe - 'HPCSA vs. Professor Noakes: A bird’s eye view
Published on Apr 21, 2017 Zoë Harcombe was the first pupil from her school to graduate from Cambridge University. While studying maths and economics at this historic institution, Zoë set out to answer the million dollar question - “Why do you overeat? When all you want is to be slim?” This became the title of Zoë’s first book - published in 2004.
“Stop Counting Calories & Start Losing Weight” followed in 2008, with an accompanying recipe book and “The Obesity Epidemic: What caused it? How can we stop it?” which was published in October 2010. “The Harcombe Diet for Men” (2011) gave men the super quick read they were after and then two more books were published in 2013 - a collaboration with Hodder & Stoughton: “The 3-Step Plan” and a completely revised “Why do you overeat?”
Zoë has a PhD in public health nutrition. She struggles to find anything that is being taught in ‘conventional’ nutritional worlds that is true or evidence based. Hence why she spent 2008-10 writing The Obesity Epidemic - 135,000 words blowing apart: the misapplication of thermodynamics to dieting; the notion that 1lb = 3,500 calories, let alone that a deficit of 3,500 calories will lead to a weight loss of 1lb; the Seven Countries Study and the subsequent change in our diet advice, which has caused the obesity epidemic; the role of exercise in obesity and much more.
Zoë lives in the Welsh countryside with her husband, Andy, a rescue dog and a rescue cat. A .PDF version of the slides used in this presentation can be found here

And @Capnbob thought the Newbies were bad about not using the search engine!
I guess I could of posted in the Found not guilty thread, but I thought a new thread was appropriate as this is news from this morning. Cheers
I know… I thought about mentioning it but then thought… nah, life’s too short.
At least the admins merged the petition threads
Good point and this was the first post of this particular article but the three previous threads yesterday were all based on this news driving the new change.org Petition from 2 days ago designed to show the general global displeasure at the HPCSA for appealing their loss. Worth signing if you haven’t…
I’ve been following Marika’s tweets as well. I’m in the maternity and newborn care biz so I have a lot of thoughts about this case, but one thing that is really striking to me is this: had professor Noakes said wean the baby onto rice cereal, say, He would’ve been just fine. The fact that he made a suggestion is not the problem, it’s the suggestion he made. We all know this. all manners of licensed professionals give all manners of advice. So this “he’s not qualified to give nutritional advice” is BS on so many levels. Had he suggested weaning the baby onto something unsweet, like mashed avocado, or mashed vegetables he would not have been pounced on. It’s the term “LCHF” which is perceived is so threatening. A non-brand brand. I remember when my kids were babies the La Leche league book “The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding” suggested weaning babies onto lamb shanks or some other safe meat bone with bits of meat on it. Perhaps Le Leche League should to be sued? My daughter’s first food was avocado; my son’ss first food was an olive (that was both unplanned and amusing). Perhaps I should be reported for child abuse?
In a similar fashion, if I have a plate of meat and greens, generally lookers would say oh how healthy. If I then label it as keto or else CHF, suddenly becomes unhealthy. Perception is everything, language is important.
I want to add,

The science is clearly on Noakes’ side. This whole thing is personal, and if it had not been that tweet that launched the acute persecution, it would’ve been something else. The accuser was ready to pounce.

I posted this here but it could easily have gone on any of the other Noakes-related threads. Admins, please move it at your discretion.
