This might be my Last week on keto

(adrianaros) #1

I’m using a different account because my phone is broken and I’m using my mom’s. (My account is m.keto.m)

I’ve been keto since January, And I haven’t lost a Pound! Not even water Weight!

Female, 17yo. I do extended fasting 4 days a week and OMAD The remaining 3 days. I eat sweeteners just once a week, Dairy just once a week, moderate amount of protein, less than 20 TOTAL carbs, I don’t eat nuts and don’t work out. I’m 178cm, 85kg (started at 86) i try to eat between 1400-1700 kcal/day. My goal Weight is 64kg

I realized that I was fat adapted a couple of weeks ago so I started doing EF. During The First 3 days water fast I lost 3kg and the following week, after a 4 days long fast I lost another 3kg. I was so happy! But then, despite my sticking to keto, I Gained back all those kg. I will try to fast again, for 4 days starting this evening but If dont lose Weight I will Quit keto once and for all. Wish me Luck

Can you post examples of what you eat?
I assume you are using an app to track your food, correct? How much fast, how much Protein?

Has anything else changed, like how clothing fits, etc?

Hi m.keto.m.

The best benefits of eating LCHF can’t be measured on a scale. Feeling mentally and physically well shouldn’t be taken for granted. And don’t discount not being hungry every fews hours and not being a slave to your cravings. In your quest of gold, don’t overlook the silver lining.

Perhaps this was the result of monthly hormones, medication, stress or mistakenly eating something that had a lot more carbs than you realized? It could be a number of things.

(adrianaros) #4

60g protein
100-150 fat

I’m shrinking a bit I guess, 2-3 cm/month

(adrianaros) #5

Probably medication and stress… I feel frustrated because I gave up all The food I like and See no results. I’m Close to go outside and Buy a Huge pizza right now

(Full Metal KETO AF) #6

You’re clothes a starting to fit looser, your body is starting to recompose itself. Skeleton and muscle weight might be increasing as you lose some fat, hence scale not moving. If you have fat buildup around your belly you probably are losing fat around the organs first.

Focus on the keto foods that you do like. I used to adore bread and potatoes but now my cravings begin and end with meat. Missing those things was easy to get over because I realized that while I loved them, they didn’t love me back. I was poisoning myself with processed foods and giving them up was the best thing I’ve ever done for my health. Feeling younger and living longer is totally worth all the chips in Idaho.

If i Gained Weight because of The medication and/or stress, would I still look like I lost Weight (since maybe it’s just water Weight or do I look) or would it be noticeable?

(Cristian Lopez) #9

It would be really noticeable!
(years into keto ) Im 16 and plan to do keto for the rest of my life. No dairy. Yes artificial sweeteners. Yes nuts.
So I weigh 150 lbs and I am 5,6, I do “cross-fit” fasted and go to work twice a week, Compared to my friends that are " 5, 11" , " 5, 8" I am the strongest, have a six pack, and WEIGH MORE THAN THEM. I measured my body fat on an in-body scan and got 11% body-fat. Your obviously recomposing and need too that most pizzas and junk food are super harmful, nada, Not what you want your body to be made of or use as fuel. I know people say having this point of view towards certain foods like this is unhealthy but the fact is that processed cheese bread with tomato sauce and nitrate rich pepperoni along side its
insulin spike + fat content of the meal (not hating on pizza just an example) is awful for you and science backs it up. I would recommend you start tracking because thats how I realized if I was eating too little, created recipes, and made my life more convenient and planned out my meals for my 4-6 hour eating window.

It’s hard to say. Something stress does is it raises blood glucose levels and that raises insulin which makes it easier to gain weight than to lose it. I’d venture to say that you will gain a lot more weight if you go back to the SAD and remain stressed.

What helps me unwind is getting out on the golf course or a nice day fishing where there’s nothing modern to intrude. Here are some tips that might help you reduce your stress:

    • Slowly walking in nature letting your mind wonder.
  • Doing light Yoga and stretching.
  • Having a deep tissue massage or using a foam roller.
  • Taking ice baths or hot saunas. Preferably both.
  • Meditating for 20 minutes a day.
  • Playing around and spending time with your family.*

Shrinking is good!
Let your body do its thing, and be patient. We are here for you.

On the days that you eat, you need to be eating way more than you are eating (1400–1700 calories)! Stop starving yourself and your body may stop trying to hold on to every single thing you eat.

(Todd Batitis) #13

I am thinking this. If you haven’t listened to The Obesity Code podcasts, I highly recommend doing so. Megan Ramos often talks about how on your feasting days you REALLY need to feast.

(adrianaros) #14

But it’s difficult to eat more than I am currently eating while comsuming no more than 65g of protein and 100g of fat. I try to eat a lot of calories by comsuming a lot of butter and olive oil, otherwise my caloric intake would be like 600calories a day

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #15

It’s not that hard. You don’t have to limit the fat!
I can usually eat 45-60g of protein easily, but have a hard time getting my fat in (without adding protein).

My solution is adding fat bombs and a fatty drink. I’ve taken to drinking 1cup of coconut cream with a scoop of chocolate MCT oil prefer. Between the drink and the fat bomb I can add about 100g of fat.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #16

Even adding protein is not that much of a problem, when carb intake is as low as possible. The body requires two things to be willing to release excess stored fat: low carbohydrate intake (we recommend under 20 g/day, because that is low enough to work for almost everybody), and an abundance of energy (calories). Otherwise, it hangs on to stored fat and cuts the metabolic rate, making it much harder to lose fat.

Also, at 17 you may not be finished yet with your growth spurt, and you definitely still have another eight years or so of brain development to feed. This is not the time to be cutting calories or fat. Bear in mind as well that muscle and bone are much denser than fat, so it is possible to gain muscle and increase bone density and still grow thinner by losing fat. The scale may not show a change, but who cares? Would you rather look as though you’ve lost thirty pounds while the scale remains unchanged, or lose thirty pounds and look just as fat as ever? Think about it.

(Andi loves space, bacon and fasting. ) #17

Jason Fung’s clinic doesn’t recommend fasts this long for weight loss. They find the best results with 2 x 48 hour fasts a week. But it’s really important to eat a lot on the days that you are not fasting. I’m 43 years old and usually eat 3000 or more calories a day when I am between fasts. At your age, you need at least that much. By restricting calories, you might be lowering your metabolic rate. Don’t worry about too much protein, just make sure you are really feasting on eating days to keep your metabolism up. If you think it’s too hard to eat that much food, then give up fasting and just eat keto (but again, more than you are currently eating).

#18

It’s also not the time to be cutting protein! On feasting days the only thing you should pay attention to is keeping your carbs below 20g. That’s it. Otherwise, eat, eat, eat and don’t worry about macros.

65g is probably way too little protein for someone your age and height. I’m not being an idiot about your age and thinking “oh she’s still a young girl.” I know a huge number of women who grew (vertically) in college. You probably are still growing, building bones, etc. I’d encourage you to eat more protein that this. It’s pretty difficult to overeat protein (maybe if you’re eating 175g or 200g/day…).

(Andi loves space, bacon and fasting. ) #19

I’m not sure where this number came from, but that’s not enough. That’s especially not enough if you are doing fasting in addition to keto. Double this if you are not fasting, and eat more than 200 grams of fat if you are fasting.

I’m fully in agreement with this ^^.

I know that it’s counter-intuitive to eat more to lose weight, and I’m guessing that you are fearful of eating more, but please consider it. Also keep reading more through the forums and see that people who are losing weight are eating lots of food. I’ve lost 30 lbs eating 3000 kC/day with some fasting days here and there, it really works!!
