So next week will be my my third week of keto. I’ve been told not to start exercising too early as it can create stress, especially if you aren’t used to working out.
My question is: Is 3 weeks still too early to start working out? I use to do cardio (alternating walking and jogging) but it’s probably been about a month.
Third Week/Exercise
I would for sure go for walks. The rest is trial and error. If you feel good exercising then do it. Do you have any health risks that your worried about other than stress?
I think you will be okay walk/running at first. The stress is so much lower than hiit and maybe also heavy resistance training. Maybe take it slow to begin with. If you feel the desire to move, I say that’s a good thing. It might mean your body wants to use up a bit of excess energy. listen to that voice.
I don’t know why anybody would discourage activity when dealing with stress. Sport increases the production and the release of endorphins and serotonin, which are the “happy”-neurotransmitters. Additionally, if you’re walking/jogging, you’ll be exposing yourself to more sunlight, which again boosts serotonin-levels. So, get out of the house, walk and run around your neighborhood, whilst listening to some keto-podcasts. That’s what I do after work to de-stress and it’s far more effective than than chocolate or a glass of wine.
I believe your performance suffers in the transition to fat-adaptation but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t workout if you feel physically and mentally capable of doing so.
Walk, stretch, break the sedentary habit. This can be your baseline and with modest movement you can build.
You will lose fat and in response your body will follow. I’m doing things physically now that 6 months ago was just a dream…
Good luck and embrace the joy of movement!
I started both gym and keto on the same day. Gym 3 times a week and just 40 minute stretching sessions on the off days. I hadn’t been to the gym in 2 and a half months before starting last week and I’ve been going great. Had lots more energy than I used to.
Thanks for all y’alls advice, I went to the gym for a little while today and did cardio. It was amazing how much this diet can change how your body works.
I didn’t get tired as fast, wasn’t out of breath like I used to be, didn’t sweat as much and my heart rate wasn’t as high. I’m just amazed how keto can change so much. I’m glad I started working out again.
