Third week... can’t stop diarrhea TMI 😐 sorry

(Laura) #1

Hello, I’m a newbie here and to Keto. Is daily loose stools normal three weeks in? I’ve been doing research and I’ve trying to make some adjustments to no success.
I don’t have a gallbladder, so there is that. My digestive enzymes seem to hurt my stomach. But, I might retry.
Probiotics tend to make it worse. I am trying to cut out veggies for awhile . veggies definitely makes it worse. I’m attempting to cut out dairy as well, because I have been drinking Keto coffee every day and I just realized there is milk in it.
I’ve been drinking bone broth, but I don’t really feel much of a difference. I’m drinking a lot of water, using Himalayan sea salt on my food and in my broth. However, I’m still feeling weak. I didn’t feel this bad in week one and two. Is my body still adjusting?
I have a lot of weight to lose. 80 pounds is my goal. I know I have gut issues, prior to thisIBS alternating constipation and diarrhea. I have gut inflammation from multiple food allergies. That is why I am doing keto. I am gluten intolerant and I need to heal my body with all the inflammation.
Any suggestions to add to what I’m doing to try to stop the loose stool?

Psyllium seed husks helped me. =) It took me about 1.5 months to feel better and 2 to feel normal (as far as weakness and energy)

I had similar problems…wrote it off to “keto flu”, but after a few weeks, I started eliminating things - found it was the Swerve / Erythritol that I was putting in my coffee (so, only HWC in my coffee now).

@Laserrell are you using MCT oil in your Keto coffee? It is notorious for causing diarrhea. Ditto if you are supplementing with Magnesium.

Psyllium husk should help. Start with 1 Tbsp in 8 oz water. Let it sit for about 15 minutes then drink it. It will set up some and have a weird texture but it does work😊

The first month comes with some growing pains. My bowel movements were a roller coaster for sure. Went from water to light and bouyount to non existant. I’ve now settled to one BM every other morning.

Psyllium powder or capsules should help. Too much magnesium as others have said. Some folks are real sensitive to salt and it gives them the runs.

It can be a big adjustment for your body to convert over to burning ketones instead of sugar and it takes a while for the gut flora to catch up.

But everything you mentioned keto should help improve. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

just to throw my 2p worth in - be VERY careful with your psyllium husk dosage if you go the route of loose powder or granules!

Read the labels and don’t be tempted to go overboard and have it constantly throughout the day, I made the mistake of nearly ending up in A&E a few years ago after about 3 days of living on protein shakes with about a heaped teaspoon of the stuff in each one - 3-4 times a day.

It doesn’t make a stool like we would all know, it creates a big gel-like mass in your bowel which pretty much sucks in all moisture and waste around it!

I ended up completely unable to pass the stool that resulted, and the TMI process that followed makes your descriptions sound like a kids cartoon!

Very very painful experience, I think I was sat on the throne for about 45 minutes, at one point, I had to manually intervene it was that bad!

:rofl::rofl: As a nurse and vet tech I’ve manually intervened on quite a few patients. Thank a nurse, you guys, that’s all I have to say about that.

Thanks everyone. I have been using MCT oil. I have used in before but never in a daily basis. I will start to watch that. I have cut out the HWC for now and see what happens. I’ll have to try the psyllium and see what happens.
