The Shakes

#1

Hi All,

I’m a long-time listener, but first time poster here.

I’m been doing keto for about 3 months, but recently I have been noticing that I’m shakey quite often.

Tried to increase my salt intake, but still to no avail.

Any advice?

Do you have a glucometer? Sounds like it could be your blood sugar is just lower than its used to. I felt that way before my body adjusted to a new lower blood sugar. When I would get shakey I would eat one of my fat bombs and it cleared it up. Once I was fat adapted I never had that problem again. Its just a guess though without knowing more.

I do not, and I’m thinking maybe not a bad idea to grab one. Thanks for the recommendation.

If you can afford ketone strips for your monitor, it wouldn’t hurt to see what your ketone level is like as well, when you get those shakes.

Hi @bryanbr and welcome aboard!

The first reason I get the shakes is after a particularly draining workout, the muscles are low on glycogen. Over time they’ll replenish most of their capacity due to gluconeogenesis.

The next reason the shakes happen, for me, is when electrolytes are low, due to too many workouts without replenishing water, sodium and magnesium in between. The others, calcium and potassium manage themselves with meat intake.

Let us know what methods you’ve tried and which worked for you.

Being deficient in magnesium can cause twitching. :cowboy_hat_face:
