The seriously bad, awful, no fricking good day

(Ellen) #1

So today I found out that my office will be closing just before Xmas, I apparently have a guaranteed job at H.O but that will mean 50 miles each way on the M25 :grimacing: What I want is a 12 pack of beer & extra large pizza, what I’m having is g&t and v low carb curry. I just want to cry but am trying to keep on point with keto. It sucks. Sorry, whinge over.

Sorry to hear your news. Sounds like you’re doing a great job of staying on track despite the stress.

So sorry -

It sounds good in theory but trust me you’ll be so bloated you’ll hate your life for a week. Stay strong!

Cor blimey!!

50 miles… sounds to me like that could be a couple hours on a bad day…?

 beer & pizza, and in those quantities = classic. :slightly_smiling_face: Good job with the curry, and Gin & Tonics are the Nectar of the Gods.

If it helps, I drive 63 miles each way. I got a pretty good size cooler with a carry strap (larger than a lunch size but smaller than a typical larger cooler) with a large ice pak so I don’t have any issues with bringing my keto food or picking up things on the way home. I use the time to catch up on podcasts.

@Elle79

 Women that drink beer.

Aw, this is crappy! Excuse me for saying that, but I think I would sound like that too, pizza, ice cream or what-have-you due to frustration and a need to comfort myself.

I hope you ca ride this out and that before you know it, there is going to be a huge blessing in this whole job/issue/thingy that just makes you feel like it was all meant to be for the best!

KCKO and get some exercise if you can (as in a good walk or a good laugh to release some tension!)

Good on ya!

If you have a cycle of stress eating, now is the time to break it!

You can do it!

Thanks for all the encouragement! Am amazed at how lovely everyone here is. Xx

I am sorry to hear that, it sounds rough. Maybe a new opportunity elsewhere will open up? Perhaps this is the time to explore new and more exciting avenues. You never know, it might turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

The way you dealt with this - finding alternative comfort foods that would help rather than hinder you was fantastic. You should feel really pleased with yourself - kudos. The irony is that the old ‘comfort’ foods would have likely made you feel even worse and could have spiralled. You avoided that with your strength and courage. You rock. xxx

Sorry to hear your news but just wanted to post to help encourage you to stick to your Keto - I too sometimes want to indulge in high carb food when life throws me stressful times.

As someone previously said…if you do give in…the bloat and uncomfortable feelings are simply not worth it…been there, done that.

I like the idea of using that extra drive time to listen to podcasts…KCKO.

Sending you lots of positive vibes…

That is a great perspective. Time flies with good podcasts. I have done the same on long journeys and actually found myself sitting in the car at the end of the journey for an extra 5 minutes so that I could finish listening!

I can say from recent/current experience that giving in to a few carbs may well make things worse. The first half of this year I found myself at the most stressful point of my life. Beyond breaking point with work and home and another’s illness that put all the weight on me to keep things going. I literally needed two days for every one in order to keep our heads above water and get enough work done. I managed to stay Keto for a couple months into it but ultimately ended up feeling like it was all just futile and I gave up and let go of the one healthy thing I had left. I regained a bunch of weight and became even more miserable and sick on top of all the stress. What a waste of all my previous efforts. I’m back to Keto now, one month as of yesterday. Work and home is still stressful, and unbearably so some days, but at least I have strength in this way of eating and in regaining my health. It does take effort to make the right decision but when your brain is overwhelmed by stress and it’s time to eat, default to an easy Keto fallback. Fry up some eggs instead of calling for pizza. You’ll maintain your strength and confidence to draw from during your work transition.

I like audio books too! My drive is only a peaceful half hour each way but I find that time so valuable now.
