The story is fun, especially for a Trekkie but the underlying issue is important to be aware of.

A referenced story on ‘predatory journals’ gives even more detail and how they are not really peer reviewed at all.

I was unclear on who was being predated upon - it’s the academics desperate to publish to maintain jobs, tenure etc. Publish or perish. Note also that PubMed isn’t a guarantee of peer review since it indexes the open access ‘journals’ too.

While obviously worrying, I hope we don’t get all nihilistic that any or all studies must be fake but we should all maintain that (very) healthy skepticism of anything published until examined properly.

Then we can safely cherry pick whatever we like :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
