The Netherlands Cohort Study - Alcohol Consumption In Later Life and Longevity

The grand parents on my mom’s side lived into their nineties. Gramps had a beer with dinner every night, and gramma had a shot of Vodka after dinner every night. In our family, alcohol was considered a part of eating, to compliment the food. Clear, hard liquor was considered to help with digestion of heavy meals (probably an “old wives’ tale” ) and beer or wine was to compliment the specific dish. I can take it or leave it, but I like it, so I take it. Mostly I stick with the one shot of Vodka, but I like it in a tall glass of cold water with a spritz of fresh lemon juice. But I have some wine in the house, and partake occasionally, especially with fish.
