The holidays - will you extend your food choices?

#23

Yeah honestly I commented on this thread without realising it was in the Zero Carb/Carnivore section. I’m just a regular ketonian.

(Brian) #24

Oops… I guess I kinda spoke out of place earlier. Sorry about that guys & gals. I wasn’t realizing this was the Carnivore channel and just blathered on about keto and having some extra carbs not even thinking.

Hope y’all can forgive me.

Normally when I pull up KF, I just see a list of recents and don’t pay as close of attention to exactly which subforum it’s posted in as I should.

Yes, carnivore with no cheating could be challenging over the holidays, mostly when out at social gatherings and family gatherings where others aren’t even keto. It’s especially difficult if someone is carnivore around a group that’s vegan. Even us regular keto types can have a difficult time at some of those functions. There is just no common ground.

Good luck!

You are not the only one. I had responded too, not realizing it was in the ZC area.

Luckily this is a friendly place and no one is going to jump on you hard about it.

Can’t answer for @mememe but for me, if I don’t eat crap I want to eat for something that happens once a year, then I can no longer call this a WOE, at that point when you CAN’T do it, it becomes the restrictive diet that people think it is. People that eat low fat high carb diets make exceptions and eat super fatty stuff sometimes as well as the sweets that even they typically agree are terrible for us, we’re no different. I’m all for people not doing that if they don’t want to, and wouldn’t recommend it for people that are newly converted and may trigger a long lasting binge, but for those of us that know we can do it and then go back to business without problems, no reason not too. I usually fast the next day, and back on the wagon I go. I also crank up my cardio the next couple days to burn off anything lurking around.

#27

Not proud as such but, definitely not ashamed either.

Just telling it how it is.

(Cindy) #28

Guess I need to check the topic title better, too. I could easily go carnivore and try to stick as close to ZC as I can, but that’s just so I don’t go over on carbs.

#29

Ah bloody hell. I didn’t realise it was a ZC/carnivore thread either
Sorry, I am not ZC/carnivore. I shouldn’t have replied.

(Allie) #30

And me :joy:
I just go straight to Latest Topics and that never shows which section they’re in, but my answer is still the same -

I won’t because I’m antisocial and don’t mix with humans in real life if I can help it :joy:

(Brian) #31

LOL!! Looks like a lot of us did the same thing.

But collaroygal said it, this is a friendly place, and I want to thank you all for that! Sincerely! There are places on the internet that are brutal. Thankful that this isn’t one of them.

Many of you are becoming like friends, only ones I haven’t met face to face.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #32

Me too, sorry, didn’t check the channel. I’m just a carnivore wannabe.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #33

Well, I have to say that I’m glad to see people aren’t abandoning carnivore for carbs during the holidays, lol!

(Empress of the Unexpected) #34

No, we’re just a really confused bunch.:rofl:

(Nicole) #35

I consider myself a carnivore wannabe too. I’m mostly carnivore but sometimes I get some plant in me. It doesn’t seem to hurt as long as it’s a small amount. I call myself mostly carnivore since most meals are just animal.

I will go off plan somewhat on Christmas but my off plan will probably still be keto. Some Brussel sprouts, some wine, baileys in my coffee, and some gravy. Maybe some nuts or an olive. Still low carb but there will be some plant products in there.

(Laurie) #36

Carnivore wannabe here too. I don’t eat “vegetables” any more, but I do consume some tomato sauce and the like.

(Brian) #37

Kinda like “plant based condiments”, nothing substantial enough to be a food group but not gonna get too excited about small amounts either. I suspect it makes eating a bit more relaxed.

(Andrea) #38

My thinking is more to try and make life more simple when spending time with family/eating out. I’m not abandoning my preference for just meat. I’ve eaten more dark choc (very dark), a little alcohol and maybe salad with my dinner.

I’ve not abandoned my former ways completely…no sugar, no starchy veg, no bread/pasta/rice. I really doubt I’ve ever been over 50g of carbs.

And this is just temporary but I will be back to zero carb come the new year when I’m back home.

(Daisy) #39

I have been off plan since almost 2 weeks before thanksgiving. I will remain off plan through today. Tomorrow I shift (at least temporarily) to ZC.

I brought keto friendly food with me to the three Christmas events I attended to share with everyone. Just tried to make the best choices offered at each house to fill out my plate (mostly meat, cheese, green veg, and olives). Left the higher carb food for last, like the cheesy potatoes. But after one bite I decided my “better” choice was to leave the rest and have one small cookie later.

We’ve been eating keto/low carb for 6 months, down almost 40 lbs. It was shockingly easy to resist the sweets.

#41

So, Xmas is now over.
How did all the carnivores do with staying on track?

It was sooo easy for me.
I got flu (the real thing) on Xmas Eve, and hardly ate anything til today.
I’ve had the odd chocolate, but absurdly few.
The fridge is still full and I’m busy shunting stuff into the freezer to avoid waste.
Feeling much better though, so be back at the venison haunches any day soon.

(Cathrine Helle) #42

Oh dear, glad to hear you’re feeling better :cherry_blossom: I would assume this was NOT how you were picturing spending the holidays!

I ended up doing the same procedure as every year; I made exceptions for the things that felt important to me. Christmas is not the time to feel deprived. However, I was a lot more careful, as it has been a while since I’ve had anything with fiber. I’ve had one gingerbread man, a couple of cream based traditional desserts, and on two occasions a white flour roll. I ended up regretting the grains, but the rest was fine. I can’t have any kind of artificial sweeteners because of my digestive issues, so I’ve never tried to do keto Christmas desserts or bisquits.

I’ve been strict again for a couple of days again now, and feel perfectly fine. Energy has been fine throughout Christmas, even though I’ve consumed some sugars. My skin is still itchy (skin gets very dry and itchy during winter), but there’s no change compared to before Christmas. Perhaps a bit to soon to tell if my eczema will keep from flaring up, but I’m hopeful. Not feeling any symptoms as of yet, fingers crossed.

Hope everyone had a lovely holiday
