That's it - I'm done reading ANY advice from Magazines

This makes me so angry… I just opened a Prevention magazine – and in the March Issue – they have a section called “A History of Diets - 1950-2018” — Then they have corresponding years and Diet names then give a description of it. They talk really bad about any low carb diets consistently. And here is what they say about Keto

2017
Ketogenic Diet
Google searches spike for this extremely high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet. A year later, however, an expert panel deems it’s unhealthy due to its high levels of saturated fat and restrictive nature…

Who are these “expert panel” — the carbage companies?

Grrrrrrrrrrr

Not sure higher fat on keto must be saturated. I use a lot of olive oil.

They need to have Sugar 101 classes in academia world wide to put a dent in that kind of thinking? (I wish)

I think they (expert panel) respond to this issue in this particular way because they are either stupider than stupid or they may feel refined sugars or excessive sugars are unavoidable so why rock the boat (‘who cares’ …lazy attitude) for us lay dummies?..lol

Its amazing what people will lie about to support their own biases!! HHLC is the original human diet.

What is wrong with saturated fat or as Zoe Harcombe calls it “stable” fat?

This is a great explaination about fats.

For me it’s a point about how good monosaturated fats are for you too. I try and do a balance for the benefits of both types of fats.

From the info:
2) The only food group that contains more saturated than unsaturated fat is dairy. Not that saturated is better or worse than unsaturated – but just to state a fact.
5) Olive oil has 7 times the saturated fat as the sirloin steak shown. “But we wouldn’t consume 100g of olive oil” people say. “No – but 1 tablespoon of olive oil can have more saturated fat than a 100g pork chop.” (Sources at end).
I think we all just a so brain washed that we feel guily for saying saturated fat is good.
I’m not trying to seem like I’m arguing, I just think we could all do better to understand that it is healthy and essential.

I worked as a graphic designer for a computer magazine in the 80’s. Once you’ve seen how the sausage is made…I don’t trust any magazine content.

So like a win win. I get my mufa, some omega 9 AND saturated fat.
A 90 second muffin baked with olive oil and topped with butter.

Perhaps the people that pay the bills, buy the ads in Prevention magazine, are the said (single?!) ‘expert panel’ that came to this conclusion.

I regard Prevention magazine as a load of advertising disguised as health journalism.

It doesn’t have to, be but the bigger point that their wrongly claiming that saturated fat is bad for us.

It’s funny they go back to 1950. Low carbing was dieting before Keyes turned everything upside down.

`Sad how Prevention Magazine has changed. I read it occasionally years and years ago but now I just shake my head.

Good point

I’ve had people tell me that the ketogenic diet is unhealthy, or not good for long term, or … you get the idea. It is usually based on some article they read somewhere. Ridiculous really. I’m still newish and have more weight to lose, but I know someday I will be able to smile and say “Really? Interesting. I’ve been doing it for years now and I’m not interested in stopping any time soon, no matter what a shiny magazine says.”

So true! My mom lost all her weight “back in the day” (1950s or 60s) going no starch/sugar except for a daily bran muffin. I don’t think people even knew about “carbs” just fattening starches.

After the low fat craze started she couldn’t keep the weight off :frowning:

This is true about most media today. Major newspapers run front page “articles” that appear as though they are truth. Televised news is the same. It’s even rampant in many TV shows. Just follow the money. As far as prevention magazine, they have been pharma-run for years. Once you are aware of these tactics it’s so obvious.

Oh yes, the restrictive diet on which I now eat vegetables every day and have started eating asparagus and Brussels sprouts and kale etc for the first time in my life.
I find most magazines are simply advertisements with a bit of “other” content.

I was in the checkout line yesterday and there was a prevention magazine about busting your sugar cravings. Being curious I leafed through it for a moment just to see what their advice was and there was a “sugar-free” recipe in it that called for 1.5 cups of flour and 1/2 cup of maple syrup, lol. What a joke.
