Thanks for a great forum!

So much great information here from so many very informed people, thank you. I’m new here but not to Keto although 11 years ago we called it Atkins. Back then I lost 26kg and my best body fat reading was 17% after nearly 2 years of weight work and 5klm walks in soft sand along Mooloolaba Beach. I’ve been back on it nearly a month now, no idea how much I’ve lost in either water weight or body fat but my clothes seem to be getting bigger by an inch or two and my keytone reading is 8.

One thing I am becoming a bit concerned with though is my appetite. I realise I’m 11 years older at 60 but back then I could eat like a horse, I’m 6ft 1" tall and around 100kg. From day 1 this time around I decided it was just black coffee in the mornings and nothing to eat until midday then the other half of my macros at 6pm but this last week or so I am simply not hungry and only eating the one meal a day. A few times I have gone between 24 and 36 hours without food and it’s not been intentional, I just haven’t felt hungry at all. I also don’t snack, ever.

Last week was a slack week water wise but I’ve been drinking around 4-5 litres a day prior to that. I’m just not sure this is healthy but also not sure how I can change it if I just don’t want food. I’m also joining the gym again on Monday to try and tone up a bit so not sure if this will increase my appetite. Any comments/advice would be gratefully received.

NigelNoFriends, I love that name. Sounds like me lol.

I wasnt hungry for a while at first. I couldnt even look at bacon. BACON FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!! But eventually it subsided and I feel like my appetite is stabilizing yet Im able to easily control it. Dont know how your fat intake is, but I found that I needed a little less fat than what I was having, and when I dropped some, my appetite returned.

Maybe check your fats? Try a day with a lil fewer fats and see how you fare?

I was born and bred in England and have never forgiven my late Mum for that name  Thanks for the feedback but it was protein I was a little high on if anything, maybe it’s just me and I’m one of those OMAD people. I thought I’d change it up a bit and tried to have breakfast this morning, had 3 mouthfuls and couldn’t stomach any more but the dog was real happy with bacon and scrambled eggs for breakfast.

That’s fine, one of the ways keto works is by reducing appetite. You’re doing great :grinning:

Hello and welcome Nigel.

Learning to trust your hunger or lack of it, can be one of keto’s biggest mental obstacles. Our whole lives, we were under the influence of processed foods that made our hunger behave irrationally and once we remove that element and once our hunger starts behaving like it is supposed to, the concept of not eating for an entire day or longer can make us feel like there is something wrong with us.

If you have good energy, there’s nothing to fear. This lack of appetite simply means your body is getting ample energy from your glycogen stores and probably some body fat. Just relax and go with the flow of your hunger. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

It sounds like a lot to me. I think around half of that should be proper to keep you hydrated. Too much water can keep us in a constant state of urination and that can flush many of the electrolytes out of us that we need. But I do know that not drinking enough water makes my heart tend to beat faster than it should so it is definitely important!

I think the rule should be that if you’re thirsty, drink; if you’re not thirsty, don’t drink. Check out this book for more info:

Guess who runs all the studies telling you to drink more?

Thank you all for the replies, much appreciated. I feel better Carl than I have done in quite a few years, energy levels way better than they have been and my BP is down from 160+/110 (on meds) to 117/77, not bad for an old fart
