Testosterone increase

(Christopher Avery) #1

I had blood labs this week and my testosterone measured 551. The normal range is 300-800.

This is remarkable since blood labs from 2010 to 2014 always showed T just barely above 300. ( T wasn’t tested in 2015 and 2016).

Also, the 2010-2014 labs were all done in the early
morning when T levels are highest. This week’s blood test was done about 5 p.m. when T levels are lower.

So, although I’m missing data from 2015-2016, I’m assuming the serious uptick in T is due to 5 months on keto, thus an NSV.

What do you think?

Good deal, Christopher. As to attributing it to keto, I don’t think all the evidence is in yet - although in your case, if that’s the only thing that you changed then perhaps so.

There are conflicting studies and quite a few people maintain that keto lowers tostesterone, while others say it raises it.

The pantheon of hormones and their regulation and interactions is so big and complex… Exercise is said to increase tostesterone levels - are you more active now?

Interestingly @OldDoug I was more active then (<2016). Then I entered a period of much stress and illness with greatly reduced activity. The Keto WOE is part of my healing process.

I realize we can’t isolate the cause for my increase in T but keto feels right.

Might take a look here to see if any of these reasons are why.

Hi @mikpaq,

Thank you. I had done some reading before hypothesizing. Here’s my assessment on Mercola’s nine items:

  1. Lose Weight

Yes. Since stating Keto WOE 5 months ago I’ve lost about 10 lbs (from 207lbs to 197lbs).

  1. High-Intensity Exercise like Peak Fitness (Especially Combined with Intermittent Fasting)

No

  1. Consume Plenty of Zinc

Unknown except for strict Keto WOE for five months

  1. Strength Training

No

  1. Optimize Your Vitamin D Levels

No change. I’ve done this for years, long before Keto WOE

  1. Reduce Stress

No change

  1. Limit or Eliminate Sugar from Your Diet

Yes. Strict Keto WOE for five months.

  1. Eat Healthy Fats

Yes. Strict Keto WOE for five months.

  1. Boost Your Intake of Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAA) from Foods Like Whey Protein

No

I realize it is still a hypothesis and there may be no way of knowing, so I’m claiming it as a general win and , as a stretch, an NSV. (-:

I would too. I have noticed what I believe to be an increase in testosterone but have never had it tested. My libido is much healthier since being in ketosis and doing High intensity interval exercises.

Congratulations. I bet that feels good. :grinning:

Apparently you didn’t read the thread … the OP already HAD a boost in his T levels (discussion being was it because of the keto diet) … he was not looking for erectile dysfunction pills.

Could eating a keto diet possibly have eliminated some foods that might have been estrogenic that you might have been eating more of previously?

Just a thought.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #12

I hope he eliminated soy! (Soy beans are evil, especially tofu!) :bacon:

Seems legit. I haven’t had the testing but libido is up and pimples are as well, and this happened last time as well. The diet fixes your T, particularly if you weren’t eating fats previously.
