Testosterone and Libido

(Jim) #1

Dear Forum,

Been doing clean keto for about 3/4 months. Feeling great and everything and really loved the diet. Now Yesterday I decided it was time for a big cheatday after all that time, just to see how my body would react. First of all I reacted quite nicely, no big sugar crashes or anything. But the main thing is… My Libido skyrocket that day, I just completely forgot about woman in the last couple of months. I got my good agression back, the feeling that I truly love to have and just forgot how that felt.

Now If I believe the sience, keto will increase testosterone. Why is that different with me? I will check it in a couple of weeks to know it for sure. But this was a really weird experiment.

It did for my husband but it took longer than 3-4 months. Like several years, but he went from below the low end of the range (and me giving him testosterone shots), to the low end of normal (stopped shots), to the about 30% of the range.

These are annual physical results so like I said - over several years.

What was the cheat food?

Nuts spike my T & DHT quite a bit.

#4

OK… sorry but how are you quantifying that? Your test levels are in flux all day long, and DHT levels depend on how much 5AR you have in circulation, not really a direct result of your test levels, which can only vary by so much. You’ve gotten pre and post test and DHT level checks prior/post eating nuts?

My libido is much better on keto than it ever was as a carb burner. But the thing is, this increase in libido took a year or two of eating keto to become noticeable.

I wonder if you are getting enough calories when you are not eating carbs, and hence the carbs are adding energy that you aren’t normally getting. I notice a definite spike in libido on days when I eat a bit extra.

Going on 3 years Keto. My libido is fine. Everyday, just ask my wife. 57 yo.

I’m sure we can both agree that spontaneous erections are an indication of T and DHT production and the hardness and duration of these spontaneous erections is an indication of the quantity of T and DHT produced. I experience more frequent and harder spontaneous erections the more nuts I consume. Extreme resistance physical activity also does it but not to the same extent as nuts.

#8

I can agree that test and higher DHT levels can do that, and I’m not doubting your experiences clearly as they’re yours but as somebody that’s had test as low as in the 80’s and at high as the 5000’s my junk never dies, stuffs clearly better when it’s higher, but you can’t go through a test raise and DHT conversion that fast, I know there’s a link with nuts and arginine / NO production and I’m thinking that’s it since NO supplements can produce very fast results. Lotta people with ED (and not) can have almost Viagra like results taking L-Citruline for that reason. That may be a way to test that though.

#9

I’ve had either my DHT or T very high to the point of being in heat as a male. The reason why the conversion is fast is because I’m a tall thin muscular male with quality genetics. I don’t train to increase muscle mass because then the brain and sexual organs starve.

Is 5000 natural levels? and in what measurement?

Are you referring to free testosterone?

Nuts also increase SHBG and this seems to be the mechanism in which they increase hormones. Higher SHBG is an indication of more T and DHT available for specific SHBG cells in the long run.

SHBG is like vilified LDL.

I eat around 3000-4000 A day because I just keep losing weight. Since that cheatmeal I am back at 67kg, but before I was around 62kg just way to less for a guy like me. But good to know! I will definitly wait a bit longer them or try to experiment with carb backloading.

#11

haha, not even remotely close! that’d be mg/dL. It’s true higher SHBG goes along with more test in general, but it’s not your friend either, once test is bound to SHBG it’s useless. Clearly there’s ways to get it back circulating as free T.

I don’t know about muscle and brain starving, I absolutely train for muscle mass, I’m 5’9’ @about 220lbs right now somewhere around 8-10% at this point so descent amount of muscle mass I think… granted I’m not relying on natural production either, but also couldn’t if I wanted to.

#12

Do very high levels of free testosterone make you aggressive?

No offense but you keep perpetuating the in vitro science based on the free hormone hypothesis. Why would the human body bind hormones and make them useless? Why would the body create a protein to essentially prevent or lesson reproduction?

#13

No, but if you go from super low to super high very quickly that can happen, DHT plays more of a roll in aggression that test itself.

All of our hormones have a way of being limited, androgens are no different. Testosterone, DHT and Estrogen have SHBG, Ghrelin and Leptin work oppisites, Insulin vs Glucagon etc…

Definitely not a hypothesis, I could care less what some idiot in a lab claims based on zero real life experience, you can have off the charts test, if your SHBG is through the roof it won’t matter, you can have half the test and super low SHBG and be a beast! This is one area where the bro’s figured it out years ago and official “Science” has no clue what they’re talking about. They also think a kid in his 20’s with test levels in the 400’s is fine because he’s “in range”. No thanks…

(Robin) #14

Dear Jim, Thanks for the heads up. One more reason to keep my husband off carbs! :0)

(Mazter Gee) #15

Yesss, stop believing the so called “science” what you read online is just someone’s opinion, I lost all sex drive, interest in women, even porn wouldn’t interest me when I was on Carnivore diet for 8 months, switched back to mainly carbs, fruit during the hot months , summer and boom, I felt normal again, best to go with facts , the physical rather than believing what others have experienced or say… we are all different

#16

Hmm. I felt a distinct difference after I lost some body fat (i.e., after doing keto & IF). Better energy + better sex drive. I read somewhere online there is or can be an inverse relationship between body fat percentage and T levels. YMMV I suppose.

(Fabien Paillusson) #17

What do you eat to get 3000-4000Cals per day on keto?
What was your cheat day like then?
Do you exercise a lot?
Adding a bit of carbs to stabilise body weight is a strategy that has been used in some research papers.

#18

According to the research. 98-99% of androgens are bound to SHBG. SHBG seems like a storage protein and also a protein that increases when hormones are low.

I don’t believe SHBG is limiting hormones but merely waiting passively until we need it or push our body.

Now that I think about the 5000 mg/dL of T. Is this free T or the long lasting man made T?

I read a paper recently basically indicating that high SHBG in conjunction with low free T is an indication of the issue and not higher SHBG by itself.

Wouldn’t it be better to have more SHBG and also a high level of T and DHT produced and bound to SHBG so it produces a lasting effect? The similar lasting effect that is the result of a T injection?

What increases hormone production the most?

Can’t answer the question of what stimulates the production of testosterone, but I do know that it is made from cholesterol, so the amount of cholesterol available would seem to be a limiting factor, especially considering how many jobs cholesterol performs throughout the body.

Everyone’s body reacts differently, so it’s possible that your body responded uniquely to cheat day. Although keto is associated with increased testosterone levels in some people, it is not a guaranteed effect for everyone. It’s important to remember that various factors can affect libido, including diet, stress levels, overall health, and hormonal balance. My husband uses testosil testosterone booster to increase his libido because of its positive and effective effect on his body. However, your experiment may be an excellent opportunity to observe the changes in your body and see how it affects you in the long run.
