Testing for artificial sweeteners

(Meaghan) #1

Hey guys just had a quick question about testing for artificial sweeteners. I ate at 8:30am bacon/eggs/cream cheese omelet w/ coffee waited till 1pm and I wanted some tea. I thought this would be a perfect time to test. I use the erythritol/stevia naturals packets (no other ingredients). I added two packets to my tea and tested T0=90 T30=84 T60=93 so i’m a little confused. I know that @richard says that there is a 20% rule but I thought it was particularly odd that it went down that much. Does this mean I can have this sweetener? Any insight would be very helpful!

I have heard that the erithrytol is safe to use to not spike insulin.

Your looking for a drop in your glucose, meaning that there would have to be an insulin spike(since insulin removes glucose) and thus your glucose would go down. The con-founder is glucose test strips can be up to 20% off. So your drop from 90 - 84 is likely not indicative of an insulin response.

I would try it again after you have fasted over night and waited for the morning glucose rise effect to clear. You should test this a few times before you can tell.
