Tense when Fasting

(What The Fast?!) #1

Hey y’all! Whenever I fast longer than like 16-18 hours, I get super tense in my neck/shoulders/jaw/cheeks…I also feel a little “cracked out.”

Does this happen to anyone else?

The tense stuff not really but feeling very hyper / energetic is TOTALLY a thing for me.

I actually have to take what would normally be my lunch breaks and go for a jog when I fast more than ~20 hours because I get super fidgity if I don’t.

I would wager it’s from our adrenals ramping up, human growth hormone (HGH) also spiking which makes a lot of sense conceptually as a survival mechanism… when food has been scarce awhile we’d need to have a bit more energy and recover better to improve our chances of feeding again.

People say that the 20-24 hour mark is the hardest but you get over it on EF.

I have done plenty of 20/4 IF and I kind of like the quiet elation as mealtime comes up. You can sit and slowly savour the food and get full from it. Pre-K it was a few hours after lunch, ravenous again, scoff dinner, prowl for some dessert, supper etc.

IF is actually more pleasant and more civilised

Yeah it’s not like a fun energy…it’s like anxious and cracked out! Ha! It feels like I’m on amphetamines.

Same experience here.

It’s not a “I feel great” but more of a “I’m about to bounce off the walls if I don’t go do something”

Mine is more like…I’m antsy but am also frozen solid and can’t do anything.

#7

Then not quite how I experience it… isn’t being unique fun?

I thought mine was just from having caffeine and no food to “soak it up” LOL

Could be!

It goes away once I eat. I’m planning to flex my fasting muscle more so let’s see if it gets better!
Also…could just be work stress rearing its head when my body isn’t busy digesting food!
