Switch From IF to AD Fasting

#1

I recently made the decision to switch from my normal IF (typically 18:6) to AD fasting. It’s a little more challenging, but working well so far. On the fasting days I do at least 24 hours, but have been trying to aim for up to 36 (successful so far). I’m trying to feast as much as possible on the eating days, without force feeding myself (lots of coconut oil and butter to avoid going too high on carbs or protein). 13# down in the last 3 days. :man_dancing:

I am currently in the midst of my first AD fast since going Keto and feeling pretty good. I have been playing around with IM for the last few weeks and I had not exactly “planned” to fast any longer today. At about 18 hours I was getting ready to eat my avocado I had taken to work, but then realized I was just going to eat because I wanted to…not because I was hungry, so I decided to wait and see how I felt. Still feeling great in hour 23!

That’s awesome! Keep it up. : ) I am currently in hour 20 and my sister just sent me some food porn…ugh (she does paleo and is toying with the idea of doing a keto trial per Mark Sisson’s new book). She cooks some really cool stuff and I love the pics. She apologized for sending it to me when she found out I’m fasting, but I told her not to worry, that it’s even sexier when you’re fasting. Ha ha.

My husband was channel surfing and stooped at a cooking show! After a few minutes I asked “Puh-lease change the channel!”

Lol, I can relate!

What is ad fasting? Alternate day?

#7

Yeah, I’m going to try to fast on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and feast on the other days.

I think “AD” means “all day.” But I am new here. Hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong!

Edited to add: I was incorrect! It Is “alternate day.” Do not want to spread misinformation!

Means alternate day. Fasting every second day is just one common plan.

This is exactly how I started and now I’m up to 96 hours. I’m thinking of doing a short 36 hours this week just because I can.

Thanks for the clarification/correction!

Cheers! This is what I’m have been doing. The long fasts are to much for me to do all the time on a consistent basis. I found the 36 hour fasts and every over day work very well to get lean.

I’m about to break a 40 hour fast for the weekend. Fathead pizza, come to mama.

Do you have any “rules” when you break your fast? I am currently in hour 44. If I can make it to bedtime tonight, tomorrow morning will make it 60 hours. I don’t want to make myself ill by eating the wrong thing after fasting for that long. PS I am pretty pleased I have made it this long for my first fast since starting Keto.

Not for shorter fasts, but learning from a mistake on my 72 hour fast, I would definitely take it easy the first meal or 2. I would probably drink broth or something for the first meal and maybe a hearty salad with some meat for the second meal. I was mentally anticipating the first meal after my 72 hour fast and thought I could handle eating whatever wanted. Well…I ended up having really bad stomach pains that night (borderline thought I might have to go to the ER and I have a HIGH tolerance for pain and a stomach of iron typically). Luckily, they didn’t last the night and I was finally able to sleep with no further issues. I’m planning on having a normal meal tonight and will see how I do.

Yes, this seems to be working really well so far. I may end up switching monthly from AD fasting to IF to keep my body guessing, but will play that by ear.
