Surimi pasta?

(Doing a Mediterranean Keto) #1

I have bought the following (only in Spanish, I am sorry), but I still have not tried. It is pasta made out of surimi (fish). It has some rice starch, but it has to be very little (1.3g of sugar, 7.2g carbs, 77 kcal). I had never seen it, and I have become curious.

Has anybody tried anything like this?

They are exceptional! I could not distinguish this pasta from wheat pasta at all. This surimi pasta will become a staple for me.

Huh! Very interesting…! :fish:

I guess straight up baby eels are different? I’m sorta scared of eels, but not if it works well for pasta!!!

These are not really baby eels, they only have the shape of baby eels. They are done out of surimi, and they have oil and garlic. I eat those sometimes. By the way, in the US they abuse you in price!!! How can they sell this product at this price???

The pasta is completely different. It completely tastes, looks and feels in the mouth as pasta. It leaves a taste in the dish (not in the pasta itself) of fish, which for me is good, since the sauce was home-made only with vegetables.

My wife and myself loved it! We will do this pasta at least once per week.

Ohhhh… so, I went looking and learned that surimi is the same stuff that imitation crab is made out of, from fish.

OK, well at least NOT baby eels lolol.

I would like to find that pasta, but I guess the Goya Surimi Eelbroods are the closest I can get with U.S. online shopping… except I cannot find the full ingredients list. I expect they must also have a little rice starch, not a lot, etc. and that would be OK.

But from what I understand, surimi imitation crab is high in carbs and highly processed, so it may be anti-keto.

This pasta has 7.7g of carbs per 100g. In a portion of 125g, you have about 10g of carbs. The usual recommendation of carbs per day is a maximum of 20g. Then, one has to see if one can live with only 10g of carbs extra.

Me, I eat lots of carbs, since vegetables are the basis of my food. Carbs are not bad to me. Sugar and especially wheat are toxic to me. The amount of sugar in this pasta is the same as low carb protein bars, so i feel safe on that.

About processed food: I agree. The ideal would be a clean keto. But I start to see that for me a dirty keto is more sustainable on the long term. I like low carb protein bars, and this pasta. They make me happy. Perfection is the enemy of the good work.

I agree that perfection is the enemy of the good. And we pick our poisons - I for one avoid chemical preservatives and other nasty industrial additives to the best of my ability.

After I got fat-adapted I eventually increased my real foods carbs and occasional processed carbs (Mozart’s marzipan chocolate during holidays!) to around 60-75 per day, which is very easy especially because I only eat two meals a day. Organic edamame (soybean) pasta is available in many stores now, it is the closest keto pasta to the real thing - and I don’t have any allergy to soy.
