Supplements pre-workout

(Annalize) #1

I have been on the Keto diet for 2 months now. Previously, I used to kickstart my workouts with pre workout supplements and USN aminostim supplements. Would it be fine to will be taking them? I sometimes do need a kickstart before training. I am just wondering if these could maybe spike insulin. I dont have any insulin problems at all. I train 5am in the mornings doing mostly spinning and a little weight training. I had a back fusion 15 months ago, so the weights I am allowed are nothing more than 8kg. Thanks

Can’t comment on your supplements but I can recommend spraying with magnesium oil before exercise - it totally kicked my leg cramps into touch. Don’t bother buying the expensive stuff - buy a bag of Magnesium Chloride from eBay. Dissolve 1 cup of flakes in one cup of water in a saucepan on a low heat. Stick it in a spray bottle and chuck it on before you work out. Works a treat.

since going keto i have saved a ton of money on supplements :joy:
i no longer take preworkout…i just no longer need it…in fact i annoyed myself the last time i took it because i was overly hyper with the bpc, bodyfat, preworkout combo LOL (i still have 3/4 of a tub in the garage that i haven’t found a home for)

are you training fasted or eating before hitting the gym?
fasted training is my absolute favorite…massive energy mid workout.

i think this is for sure an n=1 type of thing…try with and without and see how you feel and which one you like better

p.s. i also have stopped using whey protein powder and just realized it’s been more than a month since i’ve had any bcaa…i didn’t consciously stop the bcaa…it just happened LOL

Thanks Mikki and Clare for your advise.
I train fasted. I also love training early and in a fasted state. I guess my body will get use to not having any preworkout. I think its more of a “all in the mind” kind of thing. I used to use BCAA’s as well but I see the blend I am using has sugar in and I dont want to take any sugar. I gave those to a friend of mine who does Ironman, she can use the sugar lol…I am only on keto 2 months now. I am still trying to see what works and learning as I go along.
thanks guys, your advise and support means so much.

me too!
i think that is what is great about this WOE is that we can constantly learn, adjust, and refine.
no “you HAVE to do this or you suck” business

With spinning and light weights you probably won’t see a lot of benefit from BCAAs. That’s going to be most useful for fasted weight training where you want to maximize protein synthesis. As far as preworkout, for spinning I think coffee would do you fine. Shouldn’t need to full on “pump” from beta alanine, citrulline malate, etc.

My lunch pre-workout is coffee and that not even every day. LOL i train fasted most days and if I have something it’s usually a little fat in the coffee.
