Dat was part of me makin’ a joke… it was a play on da difference between carniVORE and carniVAL.

Just saw this video. Most discusses what he would have done different starting KETO. I think you will get a lot of information for this.
Thanks for that link. I think I’m kinda rocketing along trial and error lessons. When I get into something new, I obsess about it for a few weeks, researching and learning everything I possibly can, and then I start to settle into my conclusions.
It’s kinda like my clothing changes years ago. After a certain life event, I decided to simplify my clothing choices, so I got rid of everything and bought some tan chinos and a bunch of long sleeve, button down shirts. Done. I don’t even think about what to wear anymore; clothing is just something I put over my skin to be modest and to look presentable.
I think I’m getting to the point to where I no longer want to find any comfort or excitement in food, but to find a few things to eat, give thanks for those few things, eat and be done with it.
I’m starting to think that carnivory may be a better fit for me than keto. If it turns out that I decide on full zero carb carnivore, can I still stay in this forum? I like it here.

You absolutely can! Zero carb/carnivore is a specialised subgroup of keto. Some argue that you can do carnivore without it being ketogenic, but personally I think that is pretty hard to do. 99% of carnivores are ketogenic.
There is a carnivore section on this forum, and regular postings by carnis like me.

Sure, we have a carnivore thread for every months, it was super lively before, now it’s not so much and there was talking about stopping… Help me save it, it’s useful for me even if I do very little carnivore nowadays. But I try to stay as close as I comfortably can (it can be enough for me personally, it’s just easier to slip) and at the moment I am on carnivore day #2, not just carnivore-ish (that’s when I add tiny extras, almost no carbs but plants beyond a little spice)…
I consider carnivore keto as it has low enough carbs for it. Never understood the talks about carni not being ketogenic but I don’t really care as long as my body and mind (I mean cravings and stuff) feels best there…
Hi! Congratulations on making such an important step by quitting smoking and Mountain Dew! That’s a big achievement. You’re on the right track with Keto, even if you’re still figuring it all out. Don’t worry, everything will be fine!

don’t have much of an idea about what the heck I’m doing yet,
No need to worry, you’ll pick it up. It’s easy TBH. You make mistakes to start. Good Luck with the cigs, I’ve been there. Remember after 4 days your nicotine habit has gone! it’s all mental after that.
Try to eat salted fatty meat or fish cooked in tallow or butter and as little veg as you like, many of us don’t eat any veg at all.
Keep under 20g of carbs a day and eat as much meat as you like. I would get used to keto 1st then go full caveman.
Details come later and ask anything you want
Holy smokes! I can’t believe how much my sugar cravings have increased since I quit drinking gallons of Mountain Dew and have been trying to go 100% carnivore. I’ve been able to rid my diet of absolutely all processed foods and sugars except for Hershey’s nuggets, ice cream bars and clementine oranges. I never craved those things before, but just as I’m about to complete a full day of 100% carnivore, I break down and have one of those things. Sheesh!
My body sometimes doesn’t recognize the eating is over until it gets something sweet. I’ve found a few blueberries to be helpful - I freeze fresh berries which makes them take a little more time to eat.
This isn’t carnivore either obviously, but a quarter cup of berries is only about 5 carbs.
A Cautionary Tale:
I was having an especially severe craving for chocolate earlier today, so, when I bought my 5 pound log of 73/27 ground beef, a brick of Kerrygold butter and a refill for my sea salt grinder, I also broke down and bought a bag of Reese’s mini cups (one of my favorites). But, for the first time in my life, I bought something called “Reese’s Zero Sugar Miniatures,” foolishly thinking that would be better than the regular kind. I quickly glanced at the sugar content, convinced myself it would be fine, and included them with my other purchases.
After returning home, I wasn’t in the mood to cook up 5 pounds of meatballs, like I usually do after such a purchase, so, I cooked up two large tilapia fillets and ate five of the sugar free mini cups afterwards. about a half hour later, I ate another five, and another five about twenty minutes after that.
The events that followed afforded me the opportunity to learn about maltitol and lactitol. With a bit of nervous Googling, I discovered that, apparently, when overindulging in these alternative sugar alcohols, they can act as laxatives… which would explain the… how can I put this?.. the rectal firehose experience every half an hour or so. The last ones I ate were at about 10pm. It’s now 3am and the grumbly-rumblies tell me this is still far from over.
It’s a bit like a storm having passed and it’s still raining a bit, but then, in the distance, you see faint flashes of lightning and muted rumblings of thunder coming from the same direction that the previous storm came from… and you know there’s more to… uh… gotta go.
*Update: It’s now past 5am and I’m pretty sure it’s not over yet. I have discovered, through further searching of the interweb, that it’s the maltitol… the MALTITOL! It is the frooitt of the Deveell! For cry-eye… it never stops! I feel like Tom hanks trying to get his raft past the reef. And the sounds my stomach is making is like two humpback whales calling to each other from different parts of my intestines. It’s a mix between the creaking sounds a submarine makes when it’s under too much pressure and the sound the Titanic must have made when it scraped along the iceberg. Sometimes it even sounds like it’s coming from a non-existent person sitting next to me.
How is this legal to put in sweets? And with no warning label? Who can I sue? Who is going to repair the damage to Satan’s onion ring? Tears have been shed! Prayers have been made! Begging has been involved, for Pete’s sake! For the love of… dagblamitt… gotta go.
I love these. They are not specifically “keto” but at three carbs each one or two can be had. No artificial sweeteners and they taste Amazing. Lots of peanut butter and it tastes Normal, not like the peanut/sawdust paste in bars like Atkins. They have a small amount of real sugar in them. I think they actually taste better than Reeses - similar but nice dark chocolate just on the edge of bitter. Of course a warning, they’re pretty small and if you’re the type to eat a bag at once, beware!!
They’ve had them at Costco lately, a much better bargain.
My condolences but I couldn’t help enjoying the descriptions…
I never had problems with maltitol (well the one time I bought a table of chocolate with it… we are two persons so the amount was too tiny - and I STILL felt it a little, it was a subtle but annoying feeling, I get that from many too carby days too… and once I bought a bag of maltitol out or curiosity, I used it up but it wasn’t good. it’s not sweet to me, well a tiny bit when mixed into stuff, like 10% of the power of erythritol. that’s why the chocolate with maltitol is the only one where the sweetness is right for me without the stuff being very dark chocolate, something I dislike) but it’s so unnecessary. It’s super easy to make my own chocolate and it’s not half sweeneter/sugar. 4g carbs per 100g, not bad. I never could eat 100g of it, not even in the past when I still loved chocolate.
Nowadays I bake something sweet instead of eating chocolate. That’s good as my protein/fat ratio suffers way less and it’s more enjoyable too.
By the way, I did think about why it’s fine to use maltitol without some huge warning label a few times in my life. Of course people will overeat it and I am very sure our sensitivity is different too.
