Stuck need help

(Tricia) #1

Been keto about 4 months. Stuck at 148 for about 6 weeks. I only have about 8# to lose. Fat 100g or so, Pro 60g, carbs 12 total. What should I change to get the scale moving? Maybe a fat fast?? I also workout with weights and cardio 4-5 days week. Any help or advise greatly appreciated! All of you on this forum are quite smart and helpful about keto!

Thanks,
Tricia

I would try a short fast. Maybe try alternate day fasting for a few days and see if that shifts anything. i.e. eat nothing for a whole day giving you a 36 hour true fast. Then eat as normal the next day, or even 10-15% over normal. Then repeat…

Why such low fat? Looks like you’re restricting calories and if that’s the case, your body won’t be able to do what you want it to do, especially not with that amount of exercise.

I dont know. It’s just what I’ve been doing. I occassionally have higher fat days. All the calculators say different amounts. What do you suggest? I’m 50, 5"4, 148#.

(Tricia) #5

@Jacymac, hi! I have tried to fast, but I’m to hungry! I just get hungrier, then over eat. :sob:

(Allie) #6

The calculators are all just guides, you have to find what works for you and clearly this isn’t working so play around with your macros and see. I’m going through a tracking phase, it’ll wear off when I get bored again, and am currently aiming for 167g fat, 71g protein @ 5’ 3" and 118lbs

(Tricia) #7

Wow! That’s lots of fat! You’re 118? Are you trying to lose?

(Ellie) #8

In that case a fat fast could help, but I am inclined to agree with @shortstuff that you may be eating too little to begin with. Maybe try upping your fat along with leaving the other macros where they are for a short while and then try a day fasting or fat fasting.

(Tricia) #9

@Jacymac, that sounds easy enough. I’ll up my fat to 130 for a couple weeks. And then trying a day or 2 of a fat fast?

Perfect!

You only need very high fat when you are becoming fat adapted. Once that happens you can cut it back and lose weight faster. I eat protein based on my lean body mass, keep carbs below 20 (usually around 15) and eat fat until I’m not hungry. I don’t measure it anymore but I’m going through significantly less butter and coconut oil now than I did 6 weeks ago when I was trying to hit a target fat amount. I have also found that the less I weigh the slower wight loss happens. According to dr Fung every body has a set weight with that is directly effected by insulin levels. Once you hit the set weight it is harder to lose weight. To lower your bodies set weight you have to lower your insulin levels. He recommends fasting as the best method to do this.

Are you taking measurements? I too am very close to my goal weight (within 10 pounds) and I’m going up and down the same 3 pounds for the last 5 weeks-ish. But last time I measured I was down in inches. I need to check again though.
Honestly, if those measurements keep going down, the scale can stay wherever it wants to. My real goal is to be smaller (and healthier), not to weigh less anyway.

(Tricia) #13

I haven’t taken any measurements, but I’ve had to buy a smaller size pants!

(Tricia) #14

I should be fat adapted by now. Almost 4 months keto. What do you suggest my fat grams be?

(Chris Robertson) #15

I don’t know a specific number. I just add fat until I’m not hungry anymore. A true keto diet was designed for growing children, not adults. Using true keto macros to transition into keto is a good thing but adults don’t need that much fat long term because we are not growing anymore. If you stop counting fat macros and simply eat enough fat to not feel hungry then you will probably reduce your fat intake.

(Allie) #16

@tricia0402 No I’m not actively trying to lose now, but my body is still changing and the last stubborn areas of fat are slowly disappearing.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #17

Well there you go! You’re doing great. Don’t get so hung up on a number on a scale.

You deserve some :bacon:.

Hi…so also new, reading and reading the posts, we can eat more fat than the macro says? I too am hungry sometimes and someone said to up the fat…so maybe eat an avocado or two or something, but won’t that throw off carbs? I’m still yo-yoing with palpitations…bought the keto drive and pink salt. Feel better some times but not all and my keytones bounce from .3 to .8 so far. I read that is high enough to burn fat but I wish it would go up. When do you feel better all the time?

(Chris Robertson) #19

Macros matter but some matter more than others depending on what you are trying to accomplish. When you are in the first few weeks and still adjusting to keto you want to keep pretty close to the macros. It is OK to go over on fat or under on carbs. You don’t want to go under on fat or over on carbs. After you have become adapted to the diet it is safe to be more flexible and do things like reduce fat to lose weight.

(Tricia) #20

Once you become fat adapted, what do you do to lose weight? I saw somewhere that if you can calculate the amount of fat your body uses for energy, then you eat the rest, so you dont overconsume fat. But I dont know how to do that.
