Struggling with fat / gallbladder issues

(Steve E Kocher) #1

I am just starting and can feel the results already. I had a fairly decent diet before or so I thought, almost no sugar or wheat, but did oatmeal, raisins, and plenty of tropical fruit. My issue is I am sensitive to many fats. To much oil at a time, macadamia nuts, butter if very much. I always assumed my gallbladder is not the best. I haven’t seen info on the gallbladder. Can it improve? Can you have a fatty gallbladder, like liver and pancreatitis? Love the sight.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #2

The gall bladder stores bile, but does not make it; bile is made by the liver, I believe. You can still eat keto, and in fact, it may actually help your gall bladder. I used to get queasy from too much fat, back when I was a sugar burner, but nowadays, it’s actually not a problem. Naturally, your mileage may vary.

Yep, bile is made in the liver and stored in the gall bladder. It’s used to break down long chain fatty acids to smaller chains so they can move into the mitochondria to be used as energy.

Medium Chain Triglycerides such as MCT oil and coconut oil don’t need to be broken down though (they’re small enough to pass straight into the mitochondria), so if you’re struggling, try upping your MCT intake and decreasing the amount of long chain fatty acids.

Just note that some people find that they can have a laxative effect if they take a lot, so you may have to add it gradually. Not everyone is affected like this, just keep it in mind!

Thanks Paul,

I was hoping the keto would help, although it seems counter intuitive, but lots of keto does to how i was raised.

Thanks again!

Thanks Melanie,

I will check it out. Not a subject I am familiar with.

Get yourself some Ox Bile Salts and see if that helps, it should. The people without gallbladders at all use it a lot when they do keto, don’t see why it wouldn’t help you. Anybody that isn’t used to higher fat eating can have a lot of GI issues jumping into keto. I wouldn’t worry about it, you probably know what you can handle and what you can’t. Take it slow, Willing to bet it improves sooner than you think.
