Struggling To get enough fat

(Adriana Ro) #1

I Cook my veggies in olive oil, coconut oil or butter and I eat a ton of homemade mayo to get more fat into my diet but it’s still too low.

I used to make my own fat bombs (homemade peanut butter and coconut oil, that’s it) but peanuts contain too many carbs!

What should I do? Any tips?

This is what I Planned to eat today, it’s just an example

Are you full? If you are, then don’t worry about it. Fat isn’t a goal, it’s there to make you feel satisfied. As long as it makes up the majority of your calories, then I wouldn’t worry about it.

What makes you think you’re not getting enough?

Why are you logging foods with 0 amounts? Bacon and onion both show as 0?

I’m not full nor satisfied after eating the meal, that’s why I think I’m not getting enough fat.

I was planning on eating Bacon and onion but then I changed my mind and deleted them, that’s why They are both 0 carbs

Stop eating when you’re full, and definitely don’t go after arbitrary “macros.” I’m not even a big fan of the carb macro limit. Just don’t eat starches and sugars, and your body will tell you how much it wants to eat.

So why did you stop eating?

If you’re not satisfied then you need more food, not necessarily even fats as protein is of major importance too. As your calories are extremely low, I suggest focusing on overall calorie increase with the most nutrient dense foods possible - aim at carbs as low as possible, under 20g ideally, then eat as much fat and protein as is needed to satisfy your hunger.

There is a lot of debate around how much protein is too much. A classic ketogenic diet is moderate protein, but I am one of many that is just not satisfied unless I have a lot of protein. Some people find fat satiating and I wish I did! Personally could probably eat a cup of mayo and be slightly queasy but not actually satisfied, whereas adding 2 or 3 more eggs to my meals does the trick.
I’m a bit worried about the long-term effects of this so I try to balance it with more fasting as I read up on it more.

I’ve found I do better with more protein too. When you think about it, the original macro ratios for keto were for treating illnesses not fat loss so maybe people solely wanting fat loss can afford higher protein without worry.

Every time I see this I ask myself why the fat bombs aren’t using a nut butter like almond, hazelnut or walnut butter instead of peanut butter. You can get almond butter pretty much everywhere now. I don’t make fat bombs but that’s one substitution I would try for sure if I made them.

Or maybe macadamia nut butter? What do you think?

Have fun in the kitchen, ALWAYS! Feel free to experiment with recipes, taking ideas from several that seem appealing or that have the right chemistry and make your own version to suit your taste. There isn’t a single recipe that I know of that can’t be tweaked to your liking or needs dietarily. That my friend, is how great recipes are born, through experiments and ideas. :man_cook:t3:

Drown those broccolis in butter, use more than just 28 grams. Also theres no calculator or app that knows ur bodys calorie needs better than ur own body also read labels.

Fat isn’t a goal you must hit, just don’t shy away from it and make sure you’re getting it in each meal and however it works out it works out. If your energy is good, and you’re not hungry don’t worry about it.
