Strict or Lazy? Vote in comments. Just for fun folks

(Ron D. Garrett) #1

Got this off of IG from a mate and thought it would be a cool question. I’ll start off with my thoughts: I do BOTH. At 51 YO I’ve learned that there are times to be strict (keto) and times to be lazy (Keto) just as I was when bodybuilding or powerlifting. Leading up to contest times…SUPER STRICT. Off season rarely tracked anything. Lastly, I truly feel that one MUST learn to become intuitive at some point as Danny Vega, Ketovangelist, and I talked about when I was on the show to at least have as a tool for those situations that it’s hard or impossible to track.

I’m more lazy, but that’s also one of my motives for going mostly carnivore. I have so few sources of carbs, I don’t really need to count. If I have fathead pizza or low carb tortillas, then I’ll keep a rough count for the day, but generally I’m less than 10 total carbs, just incidental from eggs, cheese, and a shot of HWC here and there.

I know as I get close to my goal weight I might need to pay closer attention, but with just over 60lbs gone and 200 to go, I’ll ride the lazy train for a while longer.

Love it!

Hmmmmm- don’t know what I am really! I loosely track macros (been doing this long enough to know what I can eat and how much). I stick to my 20g carb a day but so long as I’m not getting those carbs from insulinogenic sources I eat whatever I feel my body needs/wants. Some days I hit 20g, others it’s under 10g.

I do actively avoid added sugars/seed oils and inflammatory foods as well. I don’t count calories.

I guess I’m IIFYM?

(Sommer Strickland) #5

pretty strict. I track my meals everyday, but I don’t necessarily worry about calories so much. I’m usually under my macros. If I didn’t track, it would be too easy to go over.

(icky) #6

Laaaaazy - but I’ve been told it’s called “intuitve keto” thank you very much!!

(Jan) #7

I prefer the term “casual” instead of “lazy.” I’m very strict with respect to carbs, but I refuse to track anything else. This is my life, not a science experiment!

(LeeAnn Brooks) #8

Strict, but I’m getting a little bit lazy as the weeks go on.

(Raj Seth) #9

By the OP description of the two, I guess I’m with @Jan, lazy keto. I just make sure carbs are low - avg under 5-10 daily, closer to 0 most days. I track nothing else. Oh yeah, I drink hard liquor too. And sweeteners. And diet soda.

But I haven’t strayed once in 7+ months of Keto.

I started out strict (and still track pretty closely), but I’ve gotten looser with it as the weeks have gone by. I have a good idea what the counts are for a lot of foods, so if it’s easier to use an alternative in MFP, I use it (eg - had ribs a couple of times over the last week - both times I just recorded the meat weight into MFP as baked pork chops)
I actually had one day that MFP said my total carb count was 2…and I’ve had days where I have a “F iIT!” attitude and I’m actually over a bit - 23 or 24. (but, being a bigger…well…less big now…guy, I know we have some wiggle room with the upper limit of that range)
Forget who it was that said so in the forums that their “tipping point” for falling out of ketosis was 75g. I’ll figure out where my “water mark” is after I’ve attained the weight/health goals I’ve set out.

Was strict, now lazy. I know what to eat and I don’t have the energy to document.

I started 15 months ago. I was strict for the first 60 odd days. Tracked macros and kept a strict watch on net carbs. Once I got the hang of it and after lots of reading, I stopped tracking but I have a general idea of how many carbs are in the food I am eating. That said, every now and then I “reacquaint” myself with the number of carbs in nuts since it is VERY easy to over consume them. This way I stay “lazy but conscious” if you know what I mean. Whenever I do have that occasional day when I drink beer or eat a dessert, I follow it up with a bacon heavy couple of days which more or less resets things…all without any measurement.

Love the term “intuitive keto”. That more or less describes my approach.

(Raj Seth) #13

Don’t have the energy? You probably mean, as I do, don’t have the inclination! I gots plennny energy

(Pete A) #14

Huge STRICT.

Wonderful self-flagellation.

:grinning:

(Stephanie ) #15

I’m more lazy keto, I was very strict when i first started but now I have a routine and that’s what I stick with!

(Wendy) #16

Definitely lazy as in I don’t record my macros but strict when it comes to choosing healthy real foods and fats. never eat grains, sugar (except traces in my bacon sadly) starches or seed oils. I’m not a control freak at all so I just get crazy trying to track everything. However should I stop seeing progress I will look into it more.

(Banting & Yudkin & Atkins & Eadeses & Cordain & Taubes & Volek & Naiman & Bikman ) #17

Strict in that I log food.
Targeted in that I work towards a LC target and a protein target.
Lazy in that I don’t put much worry in the “am I getting enough fat” question.
Carnivoresque in that I get a large majority of my calories from animal sources, with some very few veg and fruits. Somewhere below an obligate carnivore diet, but not really a full omnivore, either.

#18

Lazy. I don’t track anything or even measure my ketones that much anymore. I have a pretty good idea of what and how much to eat after doing it for so long.

(Jessica) #19

Strict (as far as tracking to avoid carb creep) when losing, lazy when in maintenance.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #20

Was lazy for first six weeks. Wondered why I was still starving so actually calculated how much fat I need. It was way higher than what I was getting. Will probably stay on the lazy side but now I have more of a sense of direction.
