Strep throat/tonsillitis drama

(Omar) #3

I seen people saying fasting for three days will reduce the inflammation to where your immune system can do the rest.

(Carl Keller) #4

Hi Joanna! It’s good to see a post from you again even though I wish it were under better circumstances.

Although I am not a big Berg fan, I found this short video about tonsilittis relief intriguing. He makes an excellent point that antibiotics won’t help if the tonsillitis is caused by a viral infection. There is also the possibility of having a bacterial infection that is resistant to antibiotics.

I will also include the idea of gargling with water and coconut oil since the lauric acid is known to kill both bacteria and viruses. Unless you are allergic, it certainly won’t hurt to try this.

Hope you feel better soon.

RAW HONEY! I swear by it! Local raw honey to be more precise. I made the decision for my family last year to avoid doctors unless critically necessary. Raw honey has saved at least 7 visits to the doctor and all those unnecessary antibiotics.

I chilate heavy metals and as an antioxidant I take Vitamin C, 1gm (1000mg tablet) every 3 waking hours.
Touch wood, everyone around me has had chest infections, strep throats, and non for me over the last year. My son (39) hasn’t had tonsilitis since he’s been taking it, and previously always had T over the winter.
I sware by Vit. C.
Check out Linus Pauling.
You will know when you have reached your C limit, you will get the poops.
Just back down a bit after that.
Give it a go…

Bone Broth with fresh ginger and fresh garlic. Drink often!
Sugar free popsicles to combat pain
Tylenol and Advil together for inflammation
1000mg Vitamin C 3x per day
60 Billion probiotic 2x day

I have had strep throat every year and what i just posted is what i use to survive and recover. If you can get the inflammation in your throat under control with some Advil… you will be able to eat some soft stuff that will give your body more nutrition.

Another good gargle-solution is a Tbsp. of apple cider vinegar (organic) in water for the sore throat. Y

Another - years ago a naturopath told me (and had me take some) that grapefruit seed extract - in either pill or liquid form - is as good as any antibiotic you can be prescribed. She told me to take it for a UTI - (I’d had several) and it worked. Might do the same for your tonsils if the problem is bacterial. Good luck!

Mmmm… not exactly Keto!

I am sorry you are unwell.
I don’t know where you live, but I take Biomel(a probiotic) which I discovered after a course of antibiotics wrecked my microbiome. Kefir is good too.
For the tonsillitis, these guys have given good advice. Not 100% sure about the honey though.
I wish you well :slightly_smiling_face:

Hear, hear :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve been wondering how you were @Chipmunk - sorry to hear you’ve been unwell :frowning:

#12

Sounds like you need to have your tonsils removed. Have you talked to your MD about that?

(Daisy) #13

Maybe not, but a spoonful isn’t going to do much ketone damage and is way better than a week of antibiotics! I assure you, it is well worth it. I have convinced over a dozen people to start using it instead of rushing to the dr and they’re instantly (within a day) cured as well. I’m a firm believer in healing foods and raw honey is one of them, whether it’s on a keto food list or not.

I’ll drop this here as well that I just found from a well respected forum member

(Cathy Schroder) #14

I can’t talk about tonsils as I had mine removed when I was young but I can comment on infections as I had pneumonia late last year, (tenth bout in 26 years).

I had a lot of antibiotics both during and after the infection, and it was only really when I became ultra strict about cutting out absolutely every last scrap of carbs that the situation resolved itself. I was already following a ketogenic diet (ketones on average between 2.5 and 2.9), but all the little things made a difference for me. I did this for a month and have now re-introduced cheese and other delicious things. I hope that you feel better soon as I know how run down you can get taking antibiotics.

I gargle with warm salt water, drink hot tea (it is an astringent), use Airbourne and take a probiotic capsule. (Yogurt if the carb count suits your eating plan). I hope you feel better soon!

(Bunny) #16

Your not alone!

Me too and 3rd. fricking time (driving me nuts) just started doing the garlic salt water thing and lots of Ester C and I am doing the same thing that I just saw on the Dr. Berg video posted.

Hope you get better soon!

A little blurb on viruses: clean anything plastic or metal (they thrive on these surfaces but they don’t survive on cloth for some reason) with lysol wipes; once the viruses get on those type surfaces they mutate and then your immune system does not recognize it when it is re-introduced into the body from those sources, and keep it humid (if you live in dry climate) with a humidifier, it kills viruses, viruses thrive in dry climates. (been reading the university student blogs on how to describe communicable diseases…lol)

This probably isn’t going to be helpful, or what you want to hear, BUT I too wonder how low your sugar intake is because pre-keto I would get properly I’ll on a regular basis- I’d get anything going around and get it bad. Since very low carb keto though I’ve had an hour or so at a time of thinking I’m catching something and then it’s gone. I supplement with a multi vitamin when I remember plus take high dose vitamin d, and also a zinc, magnesium, calcium combo. Rarely have bone broth and haven’t had much garlic or ginger either and no honey at all.
Given all the advice on this post I’m hopeful you’ll find a resolution. Take care.

Why would you think that I wonder?

One teaspoon of real, raw honey is around 4 grams carbs, and is a powerful healing medicine that goes back 10,000 years or more - is in cave paintings, etc. If one is 100% fat-adapted and is not a sugar addict, using real, raw honey for healing and also for a low-tech moderate sweet nibble to replace some of the highly processed erythritol and nasty tasting stevia can be quite workable.

In fact, there are some studies indicating that the oligosacharides in small amounts of real, raw honey help diabetes management, interestingly enough.

I always get the raw honey, the unprocessed stuff, that’s the one with the mother in it! (natural vitamins and living enzymes and other nutritional elements are preserved.)

I use to build bee boxes, fun stuff!

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #20

One of my daughter’s used local raw honey to reduce hay fever symptoms. Just a teaspoon in her tea once or twice a day.

(Joanna Parszyk ) #21

My beautiful keto family, sorry l’m so busy those day. Traveling and dating… a lot :rofl::rofl:
Many thanks for all the advice, you guys are the best! Seriously my heart is melting :heart::heart:
Usually l’m keto below 20g or less but for 2 weeks in Thailand l went to 50g.
No weight gain just drama with immune system.
I’ll see a specialist tmr to discuss taking the tonsils out. I guess l’ll research the keto ice cream recepies :rofl::rofl:
